MAN WANTED FOR PFA SEEN BY POLICE ON A SCOOTER, ARRESTED
Police recognized a man who was wanted on a PFA driving by them on an electric scooter and apprehended him earlier this week. According to North Central PA dot com, 32 year old Ju Michael Drummond of Williamsport was stopped by police and had approximately 36 grams of crack cocaine on his person. In addition to charges about the drugs and paraphernalia, Drummond was also charged with three more drug felony charges including three counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance. Drummond was incarcerated at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $95,000 bail, and his preliminary hearing is August 16th.
JOSH SHAPIRO VISITS CLINTON COUNTY
The Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania Governor visited north central PA over the weekend. According to the Sun Gazette, Current Attorney General, Josh Sharpiro was in Clinton County and spoke to residents who gathered at the Clinton County Democratic Headquarters to hear about the direction of his campaign. He told those who were gathered there with him that it is critically important to show up for rural counties who often get forgotten. Shapiro has been PA’s Attorney General since 2017.
OVERNIGHT CONSTRUCTION IN COLUMBIA COUNTY
Columbia County will continue to see overnight construction along Interstate 80 through this week. According to PennDOT, the closures will begin each night at 7pm at the Berwick/Route 11 northbound exit of I-80 241-B, for pavement work. The detour in place will be using exit 242, Route 339/ Mifflinville. Crews will be on the scene in the daytime, but closures will only be 7pm til 6am through this Friday.
VALLEY AREA UNITED WAYS TO MERGE IN SEPTEMBER
A merger is underway for several United Way agencies across the Susquehanna Valley. According to North Central PA dot com, the United Way of Columbia and Montour Counties and the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way will officially merge September 1st. The two boards had been discussing the merger for over a year, and they ultimately voted unanimously to approve it. Officials estimate that they will increase the organization’s reach area to approximately 260,000 people, and include 58 agencies across 5 counties.
TWO OFFICERS FILE SUIT FOR DISCRIMINATION
Two Williamsport Bureau of Police officers have filed a discrimination lawsuit, after being passed over for promotions within the department, dating back to 2017. Officers Steven Helm and Fred Miller, filed the claims in state court, even though they are awaiting the outcome of another case in federal court. According to Northcentral PA dot com, the two officers were overlooked due to their activity as union officials, which also include their involvement in a separate civil suit against the city for anti-union activity.
PHILLY FUGITIVE WANTED FOR HOMICIDE ARRESTED IN LYCO
Williamsport Bureau of Police, along with the U.S. Marshal Service, and members of the Philadelphia Police Department, took a man wanted for homicide into custody Thursday in Lycoming County. Marcus Anthony Bell was extradited back to Philadelphia shortly after being apprehended by the authorities. There was no word on what area of the county Bell was found. The 37-year-old was wanted for a homicide that occurred in Philadelphia.
COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY TO ACCEPT CREDITS FROM NPRC
Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, which makes up Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Mansfield; have signed a transfer agreement with Northern Pennsylvania Regional College in Warren, PA, that will allow students to transfer credits from NPRC to one of the Commonwealth University campuses. Northern Regional has 25 classroom sites in nine counties, and offers workforce development opportunities and associate’s degrees. Additionally, CU will award four tiers of transfer scholarships to NPRC graduates.
GRANT FOR TOWER IMPROVEMENTS AWARDED LOCALLY
Improvements continue to be the focus for Montoursville’s Williamsport-Lycoming Regional Airport and it could mean improvements for exsiteing structures there. According to the Sun Gazette, a grant of $700,000 will go toward refurbishing the 60 year old control tower. The grant money is coming to the airport, through the FAA Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program, which awards grants to improve infrastructure of air traffic control towers at small-town and municipal airports.

Kevin Harvick picked up the win at Michigan International Speedway Sunday ending his 65 race winless streak at the Firekeepers Casino 400. Harvick has now qualified for this year’s 16-car postseason playoff race. Three races remain in the regular season at Michigan International Speedway. Bubba Wallace was second, followed by Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, and Ryan Blaney rounding out the top five.
