Former President Donald Trump was in Wilkes Barre last night at Mohegan Sun Arena, his first appearance publicly since the raid on his Mar-A-Lago home, in which the feds recovered classified materials. Trump reiterated the fact, that the 2020 election was stolen from him, and that the raid on his home was a travesty of justice. Trump appeared on behalf of Dr. Mehmet Oz, who’s running for the U.S. Senate; Doug Mastriano, who is the Republican candidate for PA Governor. In addition, the candidate for U.S. Congress, Jim Bognet.

A Turbotville man was found not guilty earlier last week, in relation to a 2021 incident in which Patrick Racey, was charged with Rape and Sexual Assault. After a day-long trial on August 29^th, in which a jury found Racey not guilty on the four charges against him. The prosecution had attempted to bring up previous “bad acts” but, the judge did not allow the testimony to be included, so as not to taint the jury’s view.

The Jersey Shore Borough Council is set to hold a public hearing on September 12^th, on regionalizing its Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police Department with Old Lycoming Township, Porter Township, and Hepburn & Lycoming Townships. The hearing is to determine the viability of such an endeavor, in which the Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police and Old Lycoming Township Police should become one entity. Old Lycoming Township Police currently serves residents in Hepburn and Lycoming  Townships, at the moment. The public hearing is slated for 7pm, at the borough office on Smith Street in Jersey Shore.

The City of Williamsport and The River Valley Transit Authority are trying to figure out on how much money that the City has invested in the properties that the new authority has a stake in. This comes after councilmen Adam Yoder and Eric Beiter questioned the rationalization of transferring the properties to the new transit authority from the city. The resolution is an authorization of the transfer of the following properties: 1500 W. Third St., 100 W. Third St., 127 W. Fourth St., 11 W. Church St. and 144 W. Third St. to the authority for $1. The city also is trying to figure out how certain sub-parcels, such as Elm Park and the recycling center, are going to be divided up.

An employee with The American Rescue Workers is in trouble with the law, after taking valuable pieces of jewelry and selling them to a local pawn shop. Allan Diggan, 36, was charged for the theft of the items. Police were notified after store employees noticed that valuables were placed in the basement of the organization, even though they are typically stored in an upper floor. Police were able to identify Diggan through a I.D. at the pawn shop. Diggan was charged with two first degree misdemeanors and awaits a preliminary hearing in October.

The Columbia Mall in Bloomsburg was set to be auctioned off last month; however, the bids did not meet the reserve price, so no sale occurred. However, the owner of the property is anticipating a lot of growth for the property, near Interstate 80. The owner is in the process of constructing a Hilton branded hotel that will have 84 rooms in a four story structure. Some of the possibilities for growth include a possible Arby’s, Chipotle, and a Michael’s craft store.

A Sunbury woman is charged with filing false reports of a dead newborn recently. Kelani Betts, 23, told police that she gave birth to the newborn on August 17^th at a friend’s house in Snyder County, and that the newborn had died a short time later; with the friend disposing of the body. However, after an investigation by State Police, it was determined that the woman had never been pregnant and no such birth had taken place.

The Lock Haven Jaycees Labor Day Regatta continues today along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, in Lock Haven. Fireworks are planned for Sunday evening, pending cooperating weather. The 51^st Annual event continues through Monday in Clinton County.

SHOOTING SUSPECT HELD FOR COURT

More information is coming forward after a preliminary hearing for Shamier Gadson, the 16 year old involved in the shooting at Locust and Elmira Streets on August 19^th in Williamsport.  According to the Sun Gazette, police say the victim in the robbery attempt was Jaqua Strickland, who narrowly escaped injury from Gadson’s initial bullet and then returned fire with a legally concealed firearm, injuring the suspect – who continued to fire his weapon – in the exchange at about 10pm that Monday night.  Gadson has been held for court on charges of attempted homicide, assault charges, reckless endangerment and more and is in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 500 thousand dollars bail.

MAN CHARGED WITH SHOPLIFTING A FOURTH TIME

A Williamsport man has been charged with felony shoplifting after an incident at the Family Dollar on Memorial Avenue on August 21^st.  According to the Sun Gazette, police say 52 year old Maurice Nathan Gilmore has had three previous shoplifting convictions.  This time, Gilmore fled the store with 48 dollars worth of merchandise.  He was arraigned in Lycoming County Court and is incarcerated in lieu of 15 thousand dollars bail.

PUBLIC HEARING ON TAP  FOR POLICE REGIONALIZATION TALKS

The effort continues to regionalize area police departments, and a public hearing will be held by Jersey Shore Borough Council to take the first step in building the Lycoming Regional Police Department with Porter Township and Old Lycoming Township.  According to a legal notice in the Sun Gazette, the hearing September 12^th at 7pm will be at the borough building 232 Smith Street in Jersey Shore. According to township officials similar hearings are upcoming with Hepburn and Lycoming Townships in the continuing exploration process of regionalizing Old Lycoming Township Police and Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police. Legal notices will be filed for those public hearings as well.

SCAM LETTER SAYS VOTING RECORDS ARE WRONG

WATSONTOWN WOMAN JAILED FOR CHOKING MAN

A Watsontown woman is in jail after she allegedly choked and threatened to kill a man at a residence in the borough Tuesday.  According to police records, 40 year old Danielle Bricker was taken into custody for strangulation and terroristic threats after she fled the residence and police obtained an arrest warrant for her. She was found by Danville Police and is in Northumberland County Prison on 25 thousand dollars bail.  Her preliminary hearing is September 14^th.

GAS PRICE INCREASE TAKES EFFECT

The cost of residential heating went up starting this month.  According to a press release from UGI Utilities, Energy prices in general, including natural gas, have continued to rise and as a result, the average residential heating customer’s bill will rise by 7.6% percent.  Customers who are locked into a fixed income should call UGI at 1-800-UGI-WARM to determine if they are eligible for one of a number of energy assistance programs.  UGI can also help customers who are eligible to apply for a federally-funded Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. NEW HOOPS, BASKETBALL COURTS MAY SEE RENOVATIONS

Three Williamsport city parks will be revitalized with new basketball hoops, thanks to a check from the US Air Force that was presented to Mayor Derek Slaughter yesterday in Memorial Park.  According to the Sun Gazette, in addition to Memorial Park, Youngs Woods and Shaw Place parks will be upgraded with the almost 10 thousand dollar sponsorship money presented by Master Sergeant Leo Knight-Inglesby, the US Air Force and Space Force representative for Northeast PA.  The mayor also said that pending council approval the courts may be also be resurfaced soon.

TWO ARRESTS AFTER MAN FOUND SHOT AT LIBERTY GAS STATION

Two people have been arrested in the shooting last week of the Buffalo, New York man who was found deceased at the Exxon off the Route 15 exchange in Liberty. According to the Sun Gazette, Jesus Alicia-Santiago was shot following the exchange of a shared-custody child.  Police say 33 year old Leonardo Pagan-Acevedo of Bethlehem and 32 year old Denissa Alvarez-Matias of York met Alicia-Santiago around 3pm last Friday where a confrontation took place after the exchange, that resulted in Alicia-Santiago allegedly being shot in the abdomen by  Pagan-Acevedo while he sat in his car.  Following the incident, Alicia-Sanitago drove across the street to the gas station where he was found unconscious behind the wheel.  Pagan-Acevedo and Alvarez-Matias have been arrested, charged with homicide, and are being held without bail.

GROUP WANTS REFERENDUM THIS NOVEMBER ON VOTING MACHINES

Members of the Lycoming County Audit the Vote group have submitted a petition with over three thousand signatures asking for a referendum on the November ballot and to remove electronic voting machines in Lycoming County.  According to the Sun Gazette, officials on the election board said they will review the petition that secures the needed signatures to move forward to add a question to the ballot requesting the public’s opinion on removing the machines.  According to director of Voter Services, Forrest Lehman, it would remove an almost million dollar investment that had been paid for by taxes in the county. He said they will review the filing and respond according to legal counsel and the opinions of the Lycoming County commissioners.

MAN TRIES TO STEAL TRACTOR

Mill Hall police caught a man in the act of stealing a tractor from private property on Eagle Valley Road last Saturday around 7:30 pm.  According to North Central PA dot com, police noticed evidence of a break-in at the scene and discovered 47 year old Daniel Elroy Powell of Howard inside the property attempting to harness a Kubota tractor that was garaged there.  Powell has been charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass.  He is in Clinton County Jail on 75 thousand dollars bail.

LYCO UNITED WAY KICKS OFF ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

The Lycoming County United Way will have their Centennial Campaign Kickoff Carnival today to start the progression toward their two million dollar annual fundraising goal.  The public is invited to New Trail Brewing Company at 240 Arch Street today from 5 til 8 to help support the many programs an partners who benefit from the Lycoming County United Way. There will be a dunk tank, a mobile hatchet throwing area, and games on site provided  by SAFE Kids PA, Lycoming County Partners, PennDOT, Lycoming County Coroner’s Office, and Susquehanna Valley CASA.  There will be raffles and music provided by The Heartstrings.

CONSTRUCTION WORKER DIES IN POTATO ROLL FACTORY ACCIDENT

A worker died in a construction accident that happened Tuesday afternoon at the Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls plant in Franklin County, PA.  According to Penn Live, three 25-by 50-foot sections of concrete collapsed around 2pm at a new building site, about the time a storm was passing over, but no word if the weather conditions caused the collapse.  Police said the body of the 30 year old  man who worked for Wohlsen Construction was located around11:45 pm Tuesday after rescue teams searched the concrete hoping to find him alive.  His identity is being held while family is notified. State police are investigating the collapse.

LYCOMING COUNTY AND OTHERS ON DROUGHT WATCH

Residents in thirty six counties including Lycoming, and most of our surrounding counties, are being asked to voluntarily conserve water after the Department of Environmental Protection declared a drought watch for our area. According to a news release, individuals in these drought watch counties are asked to reduce water use by 5 to 10 percent per day – a reduction of 3 to 6 gallons.  Water suppliers may ask for more stringent water conservation methods if conditions worsen going forward. 

POLICE ARREST MEN WHO TRAVELED FROM PHILLY WITH DRUGS

Acting on a tip, police arrested two Lycoming County men who traveled from Williamsport to Philadelphia to buy drugs August 20^th.  According to North Central PA dot com, police began surveillance of 39 year old Christopher Raemsch and 29 year old Kyle Connors when they left the Maynard Street Sheetz and went to the King of Prussia Mall, where a suspect placed a large bag in the trunk of their vehicle.  As the pair were on I-80 in the westbound lanes, police stopped them and discovered several pounds of marijuana, two and a half ounces of cocaine, and approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine.  The men were arrested on several counts of criminal conspiracy with intent to deliver a controlled substance.  They are in Lycoming County prison under 250 thousand dollars bail.

Emmy-nominated producers in the Amazon Prime Video series that features episodes about the campus life and culture of colleges and universities across America, have chosen Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport for a segment on season five of the program.  According to a press release, the series “The College Tour” is a vehicle to help students across the world to connect with higher education, so they can make informed decisions without having to travel.  Two marketing managers from Penn College worked as co-producers on the episode.  Find out more at pct.edu.

NFL NEWS
Steve White, who played football for the University of Tennessee and later spent seven seasons in the NFL as a defensive lineman, died Tuesday. He was 48.  White played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets from 1996-2002. White was a sixth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1996. His NFL career came to an end in 2002.  He  had been battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

WEST BRINGS MORE JOBS TO LYCOMING COUNTY

One hundred twenty five new jobs are coming to Williamsport and Jersey Shore as the Williamsport Lycoming Chamber of Commerce announced yesterday the expansion of West Pharmaceutical Services Incorporated to it’s Jersey Shore Plant.  According to a news release an investment of 65 million dollars in coordination with state government will add to the 700 jobs the company already provides in Lycoming County.  Jason Fink, president and CEO of the Williamsport Lycoming Chamber of Commerce says it’s an exciting announcement and the career opportunity it provides can support families. Fink says it was a team effort at the local, county and state level to secure the expansion.

POLICE SAY AIR RIFLE MAY HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE

A Delaware Township woman called state police last Saturday about 9:30am after someone broke the glass of a window of her home on Albatross Drive.  According to State Troopers, the window was likely damaged by an air rifle, but no projectile was found at the scene beyond a shaving of metal in the glass panels of the broken window.  Police are investigating the Northumberland County incident and ask the public that if they have information about the shooting to call state police at Milton.

PRESIDENT BIDEN TO VISIT PA

Pennsylvania State Police have released a statement concerning traffic around Wilkes-Barre when President Joe Biden visits on Tuesday.  The visit coordinates with Biden’s trip to Pittsburgh for the Labor Day Holiday to attend the famed Labor Day parade one of the largest gatherings in the nation on the national holiday for workers.  State police say traffic will be affected on I-81, State Routes 115 and the Cross Valley Expressway in the afternoon and evening hours of August 6^th.

POLICE TO OUT PATROLLING FOR DUI THIS WEEKEND

Area police are reminding the public to be safe and to not drink and drive this upcoming Labor Day holiday.  According to police in Montoursville, they will be out in force keeping impaired drivers from the roads.  Motorists are asked to follow the move over law when they see police vehicles along the interstate as well.  Expect to see sobriety checkpoints, and roving patrols across Lycoming County, especially in areas where there is a history of DUI related crashes. 

LOYALSOCK ACCIDENT HOSPITALIZES TWO

State police are investigating the cause of a crash that backed up traffic on East Third Street on Monday around 11am.  According to the Sun Gazette, no names have been released, but two women were hospitalized after their vehicles collided  in Loyalsock Township in front of Mid-Sate Beverage.  Emergency crews responded and township fire say a Subaru Crosstrek and a Dodge Durrango were removed from the accident scene.

PA NATIONAL GUARD SOLDIER DIES AFTER TRAINING IN SC

A 17 year old Pennsylvania National Guard Soldier, who was attending basic training with her twin sister in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, died after physical training on August 20^th due to a rare heart defect.  According to a Facebook post from the 1st Battalion 34th Regiment, Private Alyssa Cahoon of Mount Pleasant, PA collapsed and was taken to an off-base hospital, where she died surrounded by her family.  Alyssa and her twin sister Brianna, were both serving as human resource specialists, both just days away from the end of their 9-week training. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Alyssa’s mother says Brianna has the same rare heart abnormality and she will now will be able to receive treatment for it.

INJURED LITTLE LEAGUE PLAYER TO RETURN TO UTAH

Easton Oliverson, the Utah Little League Player who suffered a brain injury after falling from his bunk bed at the International Grove two weeks ago in South Williamsport, will be transferred back to his home state today.  According to a social media post by his family, Easton’s remarkable progress has allowed doctors at Geisinger to release the 12 year old from Janet Weis Children’s Hospital so he can fly via medical airplane to a children’s hospital in Salt Lake City.  Doctors said Easton was admitted to the hospital August 14^th with an epidural hematoma and continues making amazing strides in his recovery.  Easton’s Team, Snow Canyon Little League was eliminated from the World Series on August 21^st after losing to Iowa 10-2, they went back to Utah last week.

ALCOHOL SALES BEING TESTED AT PSU THIS YEAR

Penn State is going to test selling alcohol at Beaver stadium during the 2022 Fall season.  According to the Centre Daily Times, the sale of alcohol has been under consideration, but still needs more approval before there is an official change at the venue.  At this time, there are alcohol sales allowed in enclosed suites and boxes at the stadium, but none for the general public.  At this time, there will be temporary sale of alcohol at the game against Central Michigan on September 24^th.

SOCIAL MEDIA COMMENT LEADS TO HOMICIDE CHARGES

A Montoursville teenager has been arrested after a comment on social media escalated to an altercation at a Fairfield Township cemetery where he fired a .22 caliber handgun at six teenagers in two cars on August 7th.  According to State Police, they discovered 18 year old Mandon Jacob Watts of Confair Parkway was involved in texts and chat messages with one of the victims in the case who was invited by Watts to meet him at Resurrection Cemetery around 6pm the night of the shooting.  Witnesses say they saw vehicles in the area when the shots were fired at the group of teens, and police have since recovered evidence on the scene of a shooting.  No one was injured, but cars at the scene were struck by bullets and by ricochet. Watts was arraigned in Lycoming County Court yesterday for attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and other charges.

Officials from Lycoming County Board of elections released a statement yesterday, that Pennsylvania residents can expect to see unsolicited direct mail pieces from two political advocacy groups beginning in the next few weeks and that they are not affiliated with the mailings.  According to the Sun Gazette, the mailings contain mail ballot applications and voter registration applications; and the two groups, Voter Participation Center and the Center for Voter Information are soley responsible for the information they potentially contain. CREWS REPAVING ALONG ROUTE 664 TAKE DOWN GUARDRAILS

The guardrails have been removed along Coudersport Pike in Woodward Township so that crews could do paving work to about a mile length portion of the road.  According to the Record Online, the guardrails were removed earlier this week on Route 664 across from Lock Haven along the Susquehanna side of the roadway.  Crews from Glen Hawbaker will be applying a second coat of Amosite on the road from Veteran’s Bridge to Mill Hill Road before the rails will be replaced.

LANE CLOSED ON EAST THIRD NEXT WEEK

Penn DOT is going to be closing lanes in Loyalsock Township in front of the Dunkin’ parking lot again next week for several days in a row. According to work crews, work will take place will be each day from 9am until 3pm between August 27^th and September 3^rd.  Watch for delays during the day on East Third Street while while work continues at restaurant and in the parking lot.  A double drive through is being installed and the store should reopen in September.

BOY, 13 SHOOTS HIMSELF IN THE LEG

Police have opened an investigation after a 13 year old Williamsport boy shot himself in the leg Tuesday night.  According to the Sun Gazette, the self-inflicted shot happened at a residence on the 300 block of Louisa Street, and the boy was transported by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport after 7:40pm.  Police said they are investigating who owns the gun and whether it was legally obtained.  The boy is recovering from the gunshot.

After fraudulent deposits totaling almost 25 thousand dollars showed up in her bank account, a woman from Lock Haven withdrew about 18 thousand of it, prior to being caught by police.  According to North Central PA dot com, Janet Robin McBride opened an account at Horizon Federal Credit Union June 2^nd and received over 24 thousand dollars in ACH deposits that she did not initiate. The bank discovered the fraudulent transactions and asked McBride to return the money and report the incident to police.  She made arrangements to do so, but never completed the agreement.  McBride was charged with felony theft by deception and receiving stolen property.  She will have a preliminary hearing September 6^th.

CENTRAL PA FOOTBALL TEAM SEASON CANCELED DUE TO HAZING

A high school football team near Harrisburg has had their season cancelled after evidence of hazing and inappropriate behavior surfaced from videos taken by players during practices that had been posted online.  According to Penn Live, the superintendent for Middletown area schools said any students involved in the hazing activities and faculty who were aware of the behavior will be disciplined.  The district learned of the videos on August 12^th and the team’s head coach Scott Acri resigned his position a few days later. Assistant Coach Robert Brodish will be acting head coach for the Blue Raider’s season that will now not be played this year.

RULING SAYS LICENSE PLATES MUST BE UNOBSTRUCTED

A Pennsylvania superior appellate court ruling this week will allow police officers the authority to stop a vehicle in the commonwealth if any part of the car’s license plate is obstructed in any manner. According to  Penn Live, the decision was newly interpreted after an April 2021 case in which the Philadelphia officer says he made a traffic stop due to the website at the bottom of the car’s license plate being covered, and discovered the occupants of the car to have drugs and illegal firearms.  The law states a license plate must be completely legible. A lower court ruling from last summer that said the police lacked probable cause to stop the suspect, was overturned.
