FAMILY OF UTAH LITTLE LEAGUE PLAYER FILES CIVIL SUIT
The family of the Little League Player who fell from his bunk bed during the Little League World Series in Williamsport, leading to a serious head injury, has filed a civil suit for negligence in the Philadelphia court of Common Pleas against Little League Baseball Inc, and Savoy Contract Furniture. According to the Sun Gazette, Jace and Nancy Oliverson say the two entities are negligent and liable for their son’s injuries since there were no rails on the top bunk bed. The family seeks in excess of 50 thousand dollars, costs and punitive damages. According to a social media post by the family, Easton, has just this week, returned to his home after his treatment for the serious skull fracture he suffered in Pennsylvania continued in Utah, his home state.
MAN CHARGED FOR GIVING RENTAL CAR AWAY
A man from Milton gave a rental car away after he had rented it, and the rental company is now pressing charges. According to North Central PA dot com, Craig Wayne Seese rented a Nissan Frontier on May 31st and never returned it and was unreachable by Enterprise Rent a Car company employees. When they reached out to Seese by certified letter, and later by phone when they got no response from the letter, he admitted he had given the car away to a man named “G”. Seese is now facing felony theft charges and receiving stolen property.
INMATE DIED OF NATURAL CAUSES
The inmate who died in prison September 13th, was an 82 year old man who passed away from natural causes. According to North Central pa dot com, Joseph Edward Longo, Jr. was found dead in his cell at 11:30pm at the State Correctional Institution at Coal Township. The Northumberland County Coroner has notified Longo’s family and reported that no foul play was suspected. State police did not reveal for what charges Longo had been committed, or how long he had been in Coal Township facilities.
WILLIAMSPORT FALL FEST BLOCK PARTY THIS WEEKEND
There will be a block party focusing on health services and screenings for families in downtown Williamsport, hosted by UPMC Williamsport, September 23rd . According to a press release, UPMC will be at the intersection of West Fourth, Hepburn, and West Streets to the intersection of Elmira and West Fourth Streets this Friday from 5 til 9pm . There will be vendors, food trucks, and live music along with representatives from community organizations, and kids zones with activities and games. MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD ABUSE AFTER SHAKING BABY
A 23 year old Williamsport man is in custody after medical professionals discovered a 7 week old baby in his care suffered head and spinal trauma injuries consistent with child abuse. According to the Sun Gazette, Ezra Buckman admitted to state police that he shook the child out of frustration on September 14th while the baby’s mother was at work. Geisinger medical officials treated the baby and reported the abuse to authorities. Lycoming County Children and Youth are assisting with the investigation and Buckman is incarcerated at the Lycoming County Prison with no bail.
MAN WHO CAUSED SOUTHSIDE LOCKDOWN CASE HELD FOR COURT
A judge in Williamsport has ruled that there is enough evidence to hold the man who caused a lockdown of the South Williamsport School District September 7th, for court. According to the Sun Gazette, Joshua Orso’s father is the person who called police the day Orso threatened his wife after being served a protection from abuse order that same day. The elder Orso had the impression that his son was going to cause a scene at the school, but Joshua was never on the school grounds that day. Fifty three year old Orso was released from Lycoming County Prison on the modified 50 thousand dollars bail after being jailed from the terroristic threat charges on no bail.
PA GROCERY STORE ELIMINATING PLASTIC BAGS
The Williamsport Wegmans is among the 18 stores in Pennsylvania that will be removing single use plastic bags from their stores Thursday in an effort to use fewer fossil fuel products. According to the Sun Gazette, the store will encourage customers to bring reusable bags, but paper bags will be available for a five cent charge, each. The funds raised from paper bag sales will be donated to each store’s local United Way. Renovations will continue at the Williamsport Wegmans through October according to a corporate spokesperson, who said the beer and wine department will move to the center of the store at that time.
MIFFLINBURG TURKEY TROT REGISTRATION OPEN
The holidays aren’t too far away, if people are registering for the 12th Annual Turkey Trot in Mifflinburg. The 5k will be held Thanksgiving morning 2022. According to a press release from the Herr Memorial Library, funds raised from the Mifflinburg Turkey Trot, will benefit the library as well as the Mifflinburg Area High School Boys Lacrosse Team. Register before October 29th and get a T-Shirt. The run begins at 9am at the Mifflinburg Community Park, 131 N. 5th Street. Registration will begin Thanksgiving morning, November 24th at 7:30am. – Buffalo Bills cornerback Dane Jackson suffered a head and neck injury and was taken off the field on a stretcher and ambulance last night during the game against the Tennessee Titans. Jackson went to Erie County Medical Center for a CT scan and X-rays, but the team reports he does have full movement in his arms and legs. Jackson was a seventh-round draft pick by the Bills in the 2020 NFL draft.
