MORE DETAILS ON TUESDAY’S I-180 CRASH

Nine passengers traveling in a van on I-180 near Montoursville were injured Tuesday evening when they collided with a tractor trailer, causing the shut down of the east bound lanes of the interstate for five hours.  According to the Sun Gazette, the driver of the van and his wife, Richard and Mary Spoonire, and one passenger,  76 year old Omar Peachey were extricated from the wreckage and admitted to intensive care at UPMC Williamsport. Six other Amish passengers from Belleville in Mifflin County were treated at area hospitals.  Police who reconstructed the accident say the Spoonires were driving the van and attempting to use the emergency crossover lane in Montoursville to turn around in front of the driver of the tractor trailer, Kody Musser of Lancaster County, who police credited for evading a further tragedy and hit the guide wires of the left side of 180 instead.  Musser was not injured. The interstate reopened around 3am Wednesday morning.

UNITYVILLE MAN THREATENS FAMILY

A Unityville man is in custody for two sets of charges, most recently for firing a shotgun from the window of a moving truck near a residence and for threatening to blow up his ex-wife’s home on November 16th , threatening his sister and suggesting he was the next “Brian Taylor”, the man who had, in the weeks prior, shot his wife, sister, a friend and himself in a mass shooting.  According to Penn Live, 43 year old Nathan Allen Minier also faces charges for not relinquishing firearms in the most recent case, after two protection from abuse orders were filed against him.  His preliminary hearing is Friday and he is incarcerated in lieu of 260 thousand dollars bail.

PA VEHICLE CODE MORE STRICT ON DUI OFFENDERS

A new Pennsylvania law will make the penalties for certain DUI offenses more stringent, a move to protect all drivers by requiring consecutive sentencing for certain repeat DUI offenders, and imposing an 18-month driving privilege suspension for a DUI conviction graded as a felony of the second degree.  Act 59 of 2022 – referred to as “Deana’s Law” –amends the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code.   According to officials at PennDOT, the new legislation also provides for sentencing enhancement in cases where an individual has four or more prior DUI offenses. 

WILLIAMSPORT FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS THIS FRIDAY

SUSPECT BROKE INTO VICTIM’S HOUSE

A Williamsport man was arrested after he crawled through a window to confront a victim last month.  According to North Cetnral PA dot com, 31 year old Sha’had Lee Harris fled from the scene after pinning down the resident in the apartment where he broke in and screaming in her face before she asked a person on the other end of her phone to call police.  According ot police there was a histody of domestic abuse between the accuser and the accused.  Harris was charged with second degree criminal trespassing and other charges.  He posted 25 thousand dollars unsecured bail with a preliminary hearing December 5th.

WILLIAMSPORT MAN ACCUSED OF USING STOLEN CREDIT CARD

A Williamsport man was arrested for allegedly stealing an acquaintance’s credit card and using it at a video game store in December of 2021 .  According to North Central PA dot com, 23 year old Kyseer Aziz Wright, was accused of taking the card of a person he had met on the Grinder app in 2021, who shortly after got messages from his card company that there were fraudulaent purchase.  Wright was identified as the suspect through store video recordings and photos and was arrested November 14 in Union County.  He faces forgery, access device fraud, and a misdemeanor of theft by unlawful taking.

PHILLY DA IMPEACHMENT TRIAL DATE SET

The PA Senate has set the stage this week for the first impeachment trial in nearly three decades.  According to the the Capital-Star, The House impeachment managers presented the articles of impeachment, which accuse Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner of misbehavior in office to the Senate yesterday and then went into recess until January.  Krasner, a Democrat, has until December 21 to file an answer to the upper chamber who formally notified him of the charges and that he is to appear in court January 18.  A two-thirds majority vote in the Senate is required to remove Krasner from office.

COLUMBIA COUNTY SENATOR TO RESIGN

Republican Senator John Gordner of Columbia County released a statement Monday that he will be resigning from his seat in the chamber representing the 109th Legislative District and the 27th Senatorial District as of today, the 30th of November.  According to Gordner’s statement he will  join the Pennsylvania Senate Interim President Pro Tempore Kim Ward a Republican from Westmoreland County as Counsel.  Gordner is a graduate of Dickenson College and the Dickenson School of Law in 1993 and was first elected to the state Senate in a special election in November 2003.

HOLIDAY DECORATION THEFT ON THE RISE

Police in South Williamsport, Duboistown and Montoursville are continuing to deal with thieves who steal holiday blow mold figurines.  According to North Central PA dot com, thievery of local favorite holiday displays has become a scourge this holiday season where residents are choosing not to decorate at all due to the risk.  Police say the man who once hosted Christmas Corner at East Mountain Ave on the South side of Williamsport had Halloween decorations stolen that have still not been recovered, and a resident had 15 figurines stolen just this Monday.  Montoursville police say they posted on Facebook, ring doorbell camera footage of a man stealing figurines there.  If you have any information call Williamsport City Police 570-327-7560 or  Montoursville Police  570-368-2488.

I-180 SHUT DOWN FOR MORE THAN SIX HOURS AFTER CRASH

There was a crash last night along I-180 involving a van with multiple occupants and a truck.  According to the Sun Gazette, the accident happened around 9:30 last night near Montoursville.  Police say a van carrying nine people and a tractor trailer collided between the Third Street and Loyalsock exits.  Emergency crews had the road shut down for about six hours – just re-opening at 3 this morning.  We’ll continue to check on the details of the victims in the crash as they become available.

WOMAN RETURNS TO NEIGHBORHOOD TO THREATEN AGAIN

The Williamsport woman who was charged with misdemeanors including terroristic threats after a road rage incident on Wilson Street in October has been charged in a new incident.  According to North Central Pa dot com, Ameerah Yasmine Blackwell who nearly hit children playing on the sidewalk when she was yelled at to slow down in the neighborhood last month, came back November 6th seeking the person who turned her in for the first incident.  Police say Blackwell barricaded the road preventing a woman from leaving the area of the 500 block of Wilson Street, and threatened to shoot her.  New charges for Blackwell include first-degree misdemeanor terroristic threats and simple assault.  Her preliminary hearing is January 12, with no bail listed.

THANKSGIVING 2022 HAD LESS DEADLY CRASHES

State police say the Thanksgiving holiday on PA roadways brought about less deadly crashes this year as compared to other years, but there were more citations written during the enforcement period.  According to the Daily Item, between November 23rd and November 27th there were 970 accidents, two of which were fatal.  Forty eight of those crashes involved alcohol, including one of the fatal accidents.  Statewide, troopers  issued 26,365 citations – just a few hundred more than last year – with just over 9 thousand of them for speeding. 

WARRANT FOR MAN WHO DIDN’T SURRENDER THIS WEEK

A 33 year old man is being sought by the Old Lycoming Police department after he did not arrive for a scheduled self-surrender this week.  According to North Central PA dot com, Bryon Vance has two warrants for PFA violations and police say he was due to turn himself in.  Now there’s a warrant out for Vance’s arrest, and if you have information, please call Officer Michael Engel Old Lycoming Police Department 570-323-4987 ext. 229

SERIOUS CRASH IN BEECH CREEK

Two drivers involved in a crash in Beech Creek yesterday morning were treated at area hospitals with serious injuries.  According to the Lock Haven Express, the wreck happened at the Main Street UniMart in Beech Creek near Monument Orviston Road.  Emergency crews were on the scene and extracted both drivers from their vehicles.  Officials on the scene say a dark blue Chevrolet pickup made a left turn into the path of a black Ford pickup, which slowed traffic as police cleaned up the scene.  No word on the identity or condition of either driver.

POLICE SEEK PITTSBURGH MAN WHO SHOT THEN ABANDONED WIFE

There is a warrant out for a Pennsylvania man who allegedly shot his wife in the leg and then abandoned her at Pittsburgh rest-stop along I-579. According to KDKA, 37 year old Kevin Crew and his wife were traveling to work Monday afternoon when they got into an argument, causing Crew to pull a gun and shoot his wife, who he then ordered to continue driving.  Police say Shauntorria Crew pulled the car to the side of the road and got out and her husband got in the driver’s seat and left.  Mrs. Crew, who had a PFA against her husband that has since expired, was treated at nearby hospital.  If you have information about Crew, call state police.

WINDMILL PARTS COULD SLOW TRAFFIC ON I-80

People traveling through Clearfield County may see slow traffic again on I-80 for a few mornings due to two transportation companies moving several loads of oversized windmill parts from Port of Erie through Clearfield County again today and tomorrow.  The caravan will include blades and tower parts.  According to PennDOT, Wolfe House and Building Movers, LLC and Lone Star Transportation LLC will transport the parts and additionally perform some wrong way maneuvers with State Police assistance this week on I-80 from the Falls Creek  on-ramp at Interchange 97 to Clearfield at Exit 120 which could significantly delay traffic.

WILLIAMSPORT SHOOTER HELD FOR COURT IN LYCOMING COUNTY

A Berks County man who already faces court action on previous charges in Lycoming County has had his case held for court after District Judge Christian Frey heard evidence from victims and witnesses yesterday about a shooting that took place around noon on September 28th at 1000 block of Vine Avenue, close to Penn College in Williamsport.  According to the Sun Gazette, 39 year old Tyree Cleveland from Sinking Spring, PA was identified as the person who allegedly fired shots at a Penn College Police Lieutenant and fled on foot prompting other campus police to assist in apprehending him.  Cleveland, who has been previously convicted of felony drug charges, will face one count of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment as well as firearms charges.

PEEPING TOM ARRESTED

A Shrewsbury Township man has been charged with prowling at nighttime and loitering after a neighbor awoke to her dog barking at him looking in her window on November 7th.  According to state police at Montoursville, 60 year old James Mio Sones, with whom the victim had previously experienced negative interactions, admitted to looking into the home since he suspected illegal activity.  Sones will have a preliminary hearing December 30th

LUZERNE COUNTY GENERAL ELECTION NOT CERTIFIED

The state may have to get involved in the Luzerne County general election after a public meeting yesterday led to missing Monday’s deadline to certify the ballots.  According to WNEP, more than a dozen voters and volunteers were at the meeting and were against certifying the election following several snags on Election Day; including the inability for people to vote after running out of ballot paper, lack of privacy and a judge ordering the polling place to remain open past the normal closing time. Two democrats on the Luzerne County council voted to certify the election, one abstained and two republicans voted against certification. 

PA HUNTERS CAN DONATE DEER

Hunters in Pennsylvania have an opportunity to share some of the venison they have harvested this season.  According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission Hunters Sharing the Harvest donates over 100 thousand pounds of venison to food banks, soup kitchens and mission outreach centers across the commonwealth.  You can donate your deer at no charge thanks to partners of the program, and help create 200 meals or become a participating processor.  Find out more at share deer dot org. 187 thousand pounds of venison was donated in Pennsylvnaia in the 2021-2022 deer seasons.

MUNCY MAN ATTEMPTS TO FLEE FROM POLICE

A Muncy man who police say was being sought by police with a bench warrant for his arrest over charges filed in September, was taken into custody early last week.  According to North Central PA dot com, 38 year old Jordan Probst had been involved in a domestic incident in Muncy Creek Township last Tuesday and attempted to run from police once they made him aware they knew of his previous assault and disorderly conduct charges.  Probst tried to escape to a neighbor’s yard and allegedly assaulted troopers from Montoursville before they took him into custody.  Probst has a preliminary hearing December 2nd

MAN WHO PUNCHED GIRLFRIEND CHARGED WITH SIMPLE ASSAULT

A Williamsport man was arraigned last week in Lycoming County Court after police say he punched his girlfriend in a domestic incident last spring, over their newborn child.  According to the Sun Gazette, 29 year old Kevin DuJour Brown faces simple assault and harassment after he allegedly pinned the woman down before hitting her in the face.  Brown posted 10 thousand dollars bail and was released. 

EMERGENCY CALL CENTER LOOKING TO HIRE

Central Susquehanna Regional 911says they are paying 16 dollars an hour for full-time tele-communicators to work in the merged Union and Snyder County 911 call center.  According to media outlets, administrators from CSR 911 are looking to fill at least 5 full time positions and pay for training which could take six months.  Qualifications for the position include being 18 years old, with a GED or HS diploma, the ability to multi-task, and remain calm under stress, and the desire to help others.  Find the information online at Snyder county dot org.

FIRE IN CANTON UNDER INVESTIGATION

Fire officials are looking closer at a fire that burned a property at 45 South Water Street in Canton Saturday morning.  According to the Sun Gazette, a 2-story woodshop burned and two homes were saved by multiple fire companies on the scene in Sheffield.  Fire officials say the siding of the homes that were about 50 feet away from the shop was damaged, but the woodshop was a total loss with tools and at least three vintage motorcycles inside the structure.  No injuries were reported.  Along with Canton, Blossburg, Troy, North Towanda, Franklin Township, Ralston, and Trout Run volunteers assisted. 

HEARING DATE SET FOR SUNBURY SHOOTER

A preliminary hearing date has been set for those involved in the deadly shooting in Sunbury in September. According to the Daily Item,  Randy Chain Easton is alleged to have pulled the trigger and killed 33-year old Joseph Rice following an argument in the city. Easton is charged with criminal homicide while Lisa Gebhart of White Deer and Manuel Santos of Sunbury are charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal. They are scheduled to appear before Sunbury District Judge Mike Toomey on December 13th,  Easton remains jailed at Centre County Prison.

EVAN GETS A GRANT FOR EMT PROGRAM

Evangelical Community Hospital was recently awarded a grant of $20,000 from the Greater Susquehanna Valley Community Fund at the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (FCFP). The funds are designated to support an EMT training program of Evangelical Regional Mobile Medical Services (ERMMS) that allows for expansion and growth of the Hospital’s Emergency Response program. The EMT Training Program is designed as an eight-week program in which trainees undergo four days of classroom instruction at the EMT Training Center in Selinsgrove.  For more information on the EMT Trainee Program, the Evangelical Community Hospital website; evanhospital.com.

RIFLED DEER STARTED SATURDAY

850,000 people were in the woods for the first day of rifled deer season which was on Saturday this year.  According to the  Pennsylvania Game Commission says deer season will continue through Saturday, Dec. 10. Sunday hunting was permitted on November 27, but will not be next Sunday, December 4, under legislation that allows the Pennsylvania Game Commission to set three Sundays per year as open for hunting. 

CORRECTIONS OFFICER CHARGED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT

A Lycoming County Corrections officer has been suspended pending termination after being charged with third degree sexual assault, forgery and other charges.  According to the Sun Gazette, Olivia Katzmaier of Plunket’s Creek admitted to authorities in July, that she had had an affair with inmate James King. Another female corrections officer is also accused in the case but no charges have been filed as of yet. Katzmaier was arraigned and posted $85,000 unsecured bail and was released, with a December 1st preliminary hearing scheduled.

MUNCY WOMAN ARRESTED FOR FIGHTING WITH A KNIFE

A Muncy woman faces felony charges as well as and multiple misdemeanors for threatening a woman with a knife.  According to Northcentralpa.com, Muncy Borough Police said Amanda Elizabeth Gains was involved in the incident with another woman on Lincoln Street in the borough on November 17th. Police say Gains was the babysitter at the home, who threatened the mother when she returned home. Gains will be appearing for a preliminary hearing at the Muncy office of District Judge William C. Solomon. 

NATIONAL NEWS ANCHOR COMING TO BUCKNELL SPEAKERS FORUM

CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper will be the next guest in the Bucknell Forum speaker series, appearing in person to discuss the theme “The State of American Democracy” on Wednesday, November 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. All Bucknell Forum events are free and open to the public, although tickets are required. Tickets will be available for the general public at the Weis Center box office beginning at 6 p.m. on the day of the event.

CANDY CANE LANE OPEN FOR THE SEASON

Despite no snow, thanks to the warmer temperatures, Candy Cane Lane is open in Duboistown.  The public is invited to view the lit-up and mechanical Christmas displays along the 200 block of Summer Street.  The homes each decorate their yards and home for the holiday.  According to the Sun Gazette, the tradition dates back to 1957, but in 2007 the mayor of the borough proclaimed the month of December as “Candy Cane Lane month forever in DuBoistown”.

WATSONTOWN MAN CHARGED WITH DUI

A twenty year old man from Watsontown has been charged with a DUI and more after being found under the influence of a controlled substance with a toddler in the car.  According to court records, Watsontown police arrested 20 year old Dakota Lowry for an incident that occurred October 24th at the 100 block  of Main Street in Watsontown.  There is an investigation ongoing, but charges against Lowry were filed in District Court.

DELIVERY DRIVER ASSAULTED

A pizza delivery driver was assaulted by two women in October and the two suspects are facing first-degree felonies as well as other charges.  According to police, witnesses confirmed that they recognized Brianna Marie Ortega and Alyssa Paul as the assailants who allegedly cut the delivery person off in traffic and then argued with the victim at the 500 block of South Market Street in Shamokin before the altercation.  The victim required hospitalization with a broken finger, broken nose, and a concussion after Ortega and Paul punched and body slammed her to the ground. The two have preliminary hearings December 13th

PA LAWMAKERS GETTING RAISE BECAUSE OF INFLATION

As a result of inflation, Pennsylvania lawmakers are getting a salary increase for 2023.  According to the Sun Gazette, Salaries across the board will rise 7.8%, a figure tied by state law to the yearly change in the consumer price index published by the U.S. Department of Labor for mid-Atlantic urban areas.  It is the largest year-over-year inflationary increase for mid-Atlantic urban areas in October since 1981. Rank-and-file lawmakers will see almost 103 thousand dollars a year with the additional $7,400 dollar increase. The Legislature’s highest paid officers, the House speaker and Senate president pro tempore, will make more than 160 thousand dollars a year up over 11 thousand.  Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro will make almost 230 thousand dollars.

FUNDRAISING RALLY FOR GILSON SNOW

Rusty Rail Brewing Company, a longtime partner with Gilson Snow, will be holding a rally this Sunday from 2 til 6 to help the ski and snowboard manufacturer rebuild from the devastating fire that occurred November 18th.  The rally is free to attend and will feature live music, and a variety of opportunities to support the Gilson team. A portion of proceeds from the sale of each beer during the rally will support the Gilson team and their families as Gilson designs, builds, and works to open their new shop.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK ON RIVER AVENUE

A pedestrian was struck near the Weis Market on River Avenue last evening around 5pm.  According to the Sun Gazette, an ambulance was called to the area north of East Third Street and transported the unnamed woman who was struck to UPMC Williamsport.  The person who police say was driving the Toyota Camry that struck the first woman, was also being evaluated at the scene for distress and anxiety.  State police were called in to investigate the accident and River Avenue was closed to through traffic.

WOMAN CAUSES DISTURBANCE CHARGED WITH DUI

A 36 year old woman from Williamsport is facing DUI and other charges after her erratic behavior caused a clerk at a smoke shop in South Williamsport to call police.  According to the Sun Gazette, Amy Lynn Tedesco caused a disturbance at Smokers Express November 11th and left in a rage, breaking the store’s door off its hinges, doing donuts in the parking lot in her 1997 Volvo before leaving the property and abandoning the car a few blocks away on Southern Avenue.  Police responding to the call, apprehended Tedesco and took her to the borough police headquarters where in addition to the DUI, she was charged with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and harassment.  She is incarcerated in liue of 10 thousand dollars bail.

NEW RECORD SYSTEM  FOR EVANGELICAL

Evangelical Community Hospital is transitioning to a new electronic medical record system beginning December 4th, 2022.  According to IT administrators at the hospital,  patients are reminded that they will need to transition their own information from the previous “Follow My Health” patient portal to the MyChart online portal,  since the previous system will be inaccessible after the new software, called  “Epic”, goes live.  Epic Information Management will make access to essential medical information seamless across all departments and has been ranked the top electronic health records system for 12 years.

YOUNGER DRIVERS STATISTICALLY IN CRASHES FOR DRINKSGIVING

PennDOT has introduced a new term and they are warning people about what it means.  The night before Thanksgiving is becoming known as Drinksgiving, named for the number of impaired crashed that occur involving  young adults returning home to visit with family and high school friends at bars the night before the holiday.  According to PennDOT, in the past five years in Pennsylvania, there were 138 drivers involved in fatal crashes on Thanksgiving eve and 44% of those impaired driving crashes involving drivers between 21and 24.  They recommend creating a plan before the party starts; like having a sober friend drive, calling a cab, Uber or Lyft.

WASD TEACHER ACQUITTED ON UNLAWFUL CONTACT CHARGES

A Williamsport Area geometry teacher was found not guilty last Friday on all charges of sexual misconduct with two former female students after jurors deliberated three hours.  According to the Sun Gazette, the lawyer for the defense said there was no evidence to support the allegations against 43 year old Christopher Yoder, and that the jury was to determine the truths of the case.  Yoder was acquitted of unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communications device, endangering the welfare of children.  He faces an upcoming second trial on charges that include statutory and institutional sexual assault.

NO MORE EMERGENCY SURGERIES AT GEISINGER JERSEY SHORE

Geisinger Medical Center in Jersey Shore will no longer be performing emergency surgeries such as appendectomies once it was determined that there is lack of need since zero to four surgeries of that kind are performed there a month.  According to Penn Live, hospital administrators say those who require those surgeries will be stabilized and transported to Geisinger Muncy or another appropriate acute care hospital.  Elective surgeries will still be available in Jersey Shore and the new decision does not impact any staff at the Jersey Shore facility.

PA WOMAN ACCUSED OF STEALING LAPTOP FOUND GUILTY

The Harrisburg woman who federal prosecutors said stormed the Capitol on January 6th and stole Nancy Pelosi’s laptop with the intention of selling it to the Russians, was found guilty Monday, of six federal counts, including civil disorder.  According to  WGAL, the jury for Riley June Williams’ case was deadlocked on two other charges, including “aiding and abetting the theft” of the laptop and obstruction of an official proceeding. Williams was taken into custody after the proceeding and will be sentenced in February.

BEAR HUNTING NUMBERS DOWN FROM PREVIOUS YEARS

Weekend bear hunting in the Commonwealth has yielded less so far than other years past in Pennsylvania, but 831 bears were brought in Satuday and Sunday, with the 4 day season continuing until sunset today.  According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, one thousand four hundred and fifty bear had been taken prior to November 19th.  Lycoming County is among the top bear-producing counties for this season at 114, topped only by Tioga with 139.  One bear taken in Lycoming County this year weighed 747 pounds.  An extended bear season will run Nov. 26 through Dec. 3 in most of the state.

ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT IN HUGHESVILLE STILL AT LARGE

Police are still seeking a suspect in an armed robbery that happened Friday in Hughesville.  According to the Sun Gazette, a man, who was caught on surveillance cameras entered the CITCO on Main Street in Hughesville and gave the cashier a note demanding money and showing a gun.  State police said the clerk put money into a bag the thief provided before fleeing the scene on foot north, toward Railroad street.  Police say the suspect was about 5’10”,  between 20 and 30 years old wearing a light colored sweatshirt with blue lettering down the sleeve.  If you have information on the robbery, call Pennsylvania State police. 

INVESTIGATION OPENED INTO MISSING AUTISTIC TEEN CASE

An investigation is continuing into the circumstances surrounding the missing autistic teenager who was found safe in Lock Haven on Friday night.  Police and community members searched yards and sheds for the boy who had gone missing without a shirt or shoes and had only a blanket for warmth.  According to the Record online, the 17 year-old, whose identity the police have not released, was reported missing Thursday, sparking a manhunt around the Lock Haven and authorities want to know more about what led to him going missing and exactly when he was safely found. 

PENN DOT WORKING ON I-180 TODAY

A Maintenance project may slow you down on I-180 westbound in Muncy Creek Township.  According to PennDOT,  a crew will be out today performing bridge deck patching beginning at around 9am.  The right lane is expected to be restricted at the Route 405 interchange – which is exit 13.  Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone and be alert for flaggers.  If you need to know about travel delays or restrictions check out PennDOT’s 511pa.com 24/7.

WOMAN CHARGED FOR SELLING IMAGES OF CHILDREN ONLINE

Williamsport Bureau of Police arrested a Williamsport woman after she allegedly sexually abused three young children, and sold the images online. According to Northcentralpa.com, Jennifer Louise Whelan is facing multiple felony charges of trafficking and abuse of children as young as 6. Police reported they were contacted by West Virginia authorities, with a suspect in custody after photos and videos were collected between December 2021 through October 2022. Whelan is being held at Clinton County Correctional Facility with no bail with a formal arraignment coming up November 28 in Lycoming County.

MISSING AUTISTIC BOY FOUND IN LOCK HAVEN

The 17-year-old boy who went missing Thursday near the Lock Haven YMCA was located after a massive search by community members and law enforcement. According to Northcentralpa.com, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department reported the autistic boy missing at 7 pm on Thursday and said he had no shirt or shoes – only a blanket.  Police said after many were out looking in neighborhoods and searching areas of the river, he was found late Friday night .

The plan awaits a final signature by a judge, but the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg has submitted plans to pay an over 18 million dollar settlement to survivors of clergy child sex abuse though a Survivor Compensation Trust into which settling insurers will also contribute.  According to WHTM, the Dioceses, which currently consist of 89 parishes across 15 counties, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2020 after  there were 54 proofs of claim from clergy abuse survivors.

LOCAL COMPANY RURAL HEALTH PROGRAM OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to the East Lycoming Ambulance Association of Hughesville, for being named as the Rural Health Program of the Year for 2022. According to social media, Lisa Davis, director of the state Office for Rural Health and Outreach Associate Professor of Health Policy and Administration at Penn State recognized the Associations’ creativity, innovation and their 20-year cooperative effort between four volunteer fire departments —Hughesville, Muncy Area, Picture Rocks and Muncy Township.

MAN ARRESTED FOR HAVING GUNS WHILE ON PROBATION

A man under probation was taken into custody in early November after a domestic disturbance brought law enforcement to his Turbotville home and they found weapons.  According to North Central PA dot com, State Police at Milton requested to search the  home of 43 year old Thomas Lee Smith where there was a sawed-off shotgun and hunting rifle.  Smith had also been in possession of a handgun without a concealed carry permit.  He was committed to Northumberland County jail in lieu of 40 thousand dollars bail, with a preliminary hearing December 7.

WOMAN CHARGED WITH LYING ON FIREARM APPLICATION

Another person has been charged for lying on an application for a firearm at Berwick Sporting goods store.  According to North Central PA dot com, 31 year old Kelsey Horkey falsely filled out the form that was checked for previous felony convictions, crimes that could have resulted in up to a year in jail, domestic violence charges, or a mental health commitment.  According to court records, Horkey has not been arrested previously in Pennsylvania.  She has a preliminary hearing December 12 in District Court.

SUNBURY FIRE DEPARTMENTS HEADING TOWARD CONSOLDATION

The City of Sunbury and all six of its fire departments are working toward the end goal of consolidation, combating their lack of volunteers. As reported by the Daily Item, City Council went to the state Department of Community and Economic Development for a consolidation feasibility report, which supported the needs of the city. Consolidation means the six volunteer fire departments will have a central location and combined resources. Mayor Josh Brosious reported the city hopes to see it complete by the end of 2023.

PENNDOT AMONG SOME STATE OFFICES THAT ARE CLOSED

Most state offices will be closed this Friday after the Thanksgiving holiday.  According to a press release by PennDOT, they announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will also be closed However, customers can still get all forms and driver training manuals, as well as to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates online  24 /7 through their Vehicle Services website,   dmv.pa.gov.

FATAL ACCIDENT IN PERRY COUNTY

A man from Northumberland County died in a single-vehicle accident on Route 11 Wednesday around 7:30am.  According to State police at Newport sau 44 year old Keith Krieger of Herndon was driving near the Route 322 West exit ramp in Watts Township when he hit a guide rail, went airborne and struck a tree.  The Perry County Coroner declared Krieger dead at the scene. 

FIREARMS CHARGES AGAINST JERSEY SHORE MAN DROPPED

Charges have been dropped against a Jersey Shore man who police believed had ammunition and firearms illegally.  According to the Sun Gazette, Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police discovered boxes of bullets at the Smith Street property of 36 year old Robert Seese,  and filed a misdemeanor  charge of possession of firearms or ammunition, since court records indicated there was an amended PFA for him prohibiting his use and owning of firearms.  However, Seese was never served the new amended order and investigators have withdrawn the case. 

PA LAWMAKERS VOTE TO IMPEACH KRASNER

The first Pennsylvania Senate impeachment trial in almost 30 years is set to take place after lawmakers in the Commonwealth voted to impeach Democrat District Attorney Larry Krasner 107-85.  Philadelphia voters reelected Krasner last year and he is not accused of breaking the law, rather he is under fire for failure to prosecute some minor crimes, bail request policies, staff oversight and reports him inadequately handing communication with crime victims amid rising crime in the city.  According to the Philadephia Inquirer, lawmakers have only removed two officials — both of them judges — through impeachment: the first in 1811 and state Supreme Court Justice Rolf Larsen in 1994.

BALLOONFEST TO TAKE A HIATUS

Balloonfest is taking a break.  According to a social media post by the committee of Balloonfest, Air Show and So Much More, the annual event that takes place at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds has planned hiatus for 2023.  Balloonfest is expected to return in 2024  after a time to regroup, grow and improve the event.  According to the Sun Gazette, organizers say two things that led to the decision is the need for more volunteers and rising costs. Those interested in joining the Balloonfest committee is encouraged to reach out.

WATSONTOWN WOMAN REAR ENDS SNOWPLOW ON ROUTE 15

A Watsontown woman crashed into a snow plow earlier this week while it was being operated along Route 15 in Monroe Township.  According to Selinsgrove State Police before 6pm on Tuesday, 62 year old Melanie Wallace attempted to pass the plow that was being driven by 55 year old Shane Fawver of Mount Pleasant Mills, when snow obstructed her view, she ran into the back of the plow.  Wallace was treated at Evangelical Community Hospital. The driver of the plow was not injured.

NEW YORK MAN AQUITTED IN LYCOMING COUNTY COURT

A New York man being tried in Lycoming County for 20 counts of sexual assault charges that a minor-family member alleged, has been acquitted.  According to North Central PA dot com, court records indicated   Casey Lewis Guyer was accused of the assault that occurred in Muncy Borough between July or August of 2019 but the prosecution had no physical evidence such as text messages or photos.  A 12 member jury deliberated for about an hour and found that there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute Casey Lewis Guyer, declaring him not guilty.  He had been free on bail since June 2021.

WILLIAMSPORT SUBMITS A NO-INCREASE BUDGET PROPOSAL

A 28.6 million dollar zero-tax increase budget was presented in Williamsport Wednesday during a City Council work session.  According to the Sun Gazette, Mayor Derek Slaughter and a contracted finance advisor from Harrisburg, gave to Council an assessment of the budget as well as estimates about the current financial climate after working through audits, time constraints, and in some cases lack of reconciliation from the last 4 years. The Capital Projects budget is being integrated into general operations and the information technology budget which was normally part of the general fund, has been moved into City Hall Operations.A second work session will be held for Williamsport City Council Monday at 7pm.

GRANTS AVAILABLE TO BUILD EV CHARGING STATIONS IN PA

PennDOT introduced a program recently that supports the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, helping to make Electric Vehicle charging more accessible to all Americans.  According to the Sun Gazette, The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program will make available 170 million dollars to grant recipients in Pennsylvania who apply to host direct current fast chargers at ideal business locations along the interstates to support longer distance travel.  Information on NEVI is available at PA.gov.  Recipients are responsible for a 20 percent match when awarded the grant.
