Hi there! I’m Jake Michaels – welcome to my profile page, where we dive into the thrilling saga of… well, me! You clicked, so here we go. What do you want to know? (Spoiler alert: it involves music, radio, and growing up in a park… sort of.)
Let’s rewind to the beginning: I’m a proud Williamsport, PA native, born and raised in the good ol’ East End. My childhood playground? Young Woods Park, where my friends and I perfected the fine art of goofing around. I did the full Williamsport school tour—Jefferson Elementary, Curtain Middle, and capped it off with a 1987 diploma from Williamsport Area High.
Now, about music—it’s been my ride-or-die since forever. I was that choir kid belting out harmonies from grade school through high school. Around age 12, I discovered guitar and The Beatles. Suddenly, life had a mission: become Paul McCartney. Fast forward to my high school years, where my band career peaked at garage superstar status and the occasional talent show performance. In 1989, I stepped things up and joined the regional band “Toyz” as a bass player, rocking out with them for years.
Then came 1993. A love of rock ‘n’ roll, zero radio experience, and an opportunity at Rock 99.3 WZXR collided—thanks to Ted Minier, who took a chance on me. Midnight-to-6am shifts became my life, eventually upgrading to the prime-time slot of 7pm to midnight. After a short detour at WHOT, I landed at Oldiez 93 WBZD, where I became the morning show host.
Fast-forward again—Oldiez 93 became Classic Hits 93.3 WBZD, and here I am, living the dream! I get to play the tunes I grew up with, share stories from my youth in Williamsport, and have a blast doing it. Honestly, waking up to do what I love every day? Doesn’t get much better than that.
Thanks for letting Classic Hits 93.3 WBZD (and me!) be part of your day. You keep listening, and I’ll keep spinning those classic hits, one nostalgic jam at a time!
