STATE POLICE FIND GUNS ON THE ROAD IN MONROE TOWNSHIP
State Police in Selinsgrove say they found two guns along Route 15 in Monroe Township last week and they are investigating. According to media outlets, police discovered a Remington Model 700 rifle with a Simmons scope and a Ruger Security 9 handgun on April 17th. The value of the guns was close to a thousand dollars. Witnesses say a 2005 gray Dodge Ram 1500 may have been a vehicle involved with the discarded firearms. If you have information call Pennsylvania State Police.
TRIAL OF SUSPECTS WHO RELEASE HUNDREDS OF MINK CONTINUED
The hearing was continued this week for the two Massachusetts residents accused of releasing over 650 mink from the Richard H. Stahl and Sons Fur Farm on October 19th. According to the Daily Item, 25 year old Christopher Legere, who goes by Celeste, and 27 year old co-defendant Cara Mitrano are free on 15 thousand dollars bail each with previous bail conditions vacated. The two could leave PA but were required to report to probation twice monthly in person or via electronic methods. Both face eco-terrorism charges and will now appear in court later this year.
MAIN LINE TO BE ADDED TO ASHKAR ELEMENTARY
Approval has been obtained so that Hughesville Borough can now run a new main line under the gravel parking lot and connect into Ashkar Elementary School which will improve conditions for the school and the surrounding area. According to the Sun Gazette, Dr. Mark Stamm, district superintendent, told the East Lycoming School District School board recently about updates for the upcoming work including sound and theatrical renovations at the High School Gym and auditorium, resurfacing of the tennis court and track, updating the Ashkar playground and more. The current work on the sanitary lines will continue at Hughesville High School and Lyco Career and Technology Center today. Those buildings will remain closed before students return after spring break tomorrow.
PA FLAGS AT HALF STAFF TO HONOR POPE FRANCIS
Residents of Pennsylvania are invited to pay tribute to His Holiness Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88 yesterday. According to Governor Josh Shapiro, the United States and Commonwealth flags on all Commonwealth facilities, public buildings, and grounds across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania should fly at half-staff. The flags are ordered to be lowered until sunset on Saturday.
MUNCY MAN ARRESTED FOR OUTING INFORMANTS
There is an arrest warrant issued for a man from Muncy who is accused of revealing the identities of confidential informants in alleged retaliation against a witness during a recent drug trial in Lycoming County. According to North Central PA dot com, police are charging 27 year old Tyler Chase Wagner posted a series of images of the informants to a social media profile and publicly commented on news stories involving the informants. Wagner will face charges for retaliation against a witness, criminal attempt at obstruction of justice, and harassment.
WOMAN CHARGED WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
A woman from Lewisburg was arrested last Tuesday by Buffalo Valley Regional Police after a domestic incident in which she attacked a juvenile. According to the Daily Item, witnesses say they heard screaming and fighting from the Buffalo Road home where police say 52 year old Julie Ann Hauck, allegedly pushed, strangled and threw things at the child. Union County Children and Youth were also called to the home with police, where authorities observed visible injuries on the girls’ neck and skin. Hauck was arraigned last week and is free on non-monetary bail with a preliminary hearing May 15th.
YWCA RECEIVES MILLION DOLLAR DONATION
Through Pennsylvania’s neighborhood Assistance Program Miele Manufacturing has given the YWCA of North Central PA more than a million dollars to support their range of services like Wise Options and Liberty House, that serves women and children who are in crisis, and help empower them to reach their full potential. The one million and seventeen dollar check was presented after a legislative reception last week outlining efforts to legalize skills games in the state. The funds will provide services to help shelter adults and children fleeing violence.
CHARITY AUCTION IN MIFFLINBURG ANNOUNCED FOR JUNE
The 13th annual Union County Benefit Auction has been announced for the weekend of June 6th at the Buffalo Valley Produce Auction. According to The Clinic for Special Children, the annual event is one of seven annual auctions across the US that has raised nearly $20 million since 1990. They help raise money to provide affordable care to children and adults with rare genetic disorders. Friday June 6th is a flower and tool sale, as well as a rib dinner from 4 til 8pm.
