MAN FACING THEFT CHARGES ALSO FOUND WITH CHILD PORN
A man already facing charges for allegedly failing to deliver more than $7,000 worth of T-shirts to the Lycoming County 9/11 Memorial Coalition has now been jailed for felony possession of child pornography charges. According to the Sun Gazette, Michael Allen Ritter was taken into custody yesterday after law enforcement said several images and videos that were time stamped between May and September of 2024 were found during a search of his cellphone on March 18th. As far as the theft charges, Ritter pleaded no contest to a single downgraded misdemeanor charge of theft by deception, but was committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail for the child pornography charges.
TRESSPASSERS ARRESTED AT LAURELTON CENTER
Two more trespassers were caught on the property at the former Laurelton Center in Hartley Township on April 11th. According to State police in Milton, this is the 7th occurrence of trespassing in just over a year. Troopers say they took a a 25-year-old man from Mount Holly Springs and a 27-year-old woman from York Springs into custody for the defiant trespass but have not released their names. . Charges were filed in Mifflinburg.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE MEETINGS COMING IN MAY
There are two public meetings coming up in May concerning electric vehicle (EV) community charging stations; one in Shamokin and one in Lock Haven. According to North Central PA dot com, the SEDA-COG Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold the free meetings to provide background and resources on EVs and EV programs. The first meeting is May 8, at 1pm at the Shamokin-Coal Township Library. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR NEWBERRY CLEAN-UP
The Newberry Community Partnership is inviting volunteers this Saturday to help with their clean-up of the neighborhood. According to the Sun Gazette, the annual event is 9:30 until 2:30 and volunteers should sign in at the West End Christian Community Center, 913 Diamond St. to coordinate efforts and avoid duplication of work. Michelle Frey, the President of the Newberry Community Partnership said the amount of waste and recyclables will be reported to organizations like Keep America Beautiful and the Susquehanna Greenway Project to track the clean-up’s impact on the local environment. All supplies will be provided, including gloves, grabbers and safety signs.
BRADFORD COUNTY PASTOR ARRESTED IN CHILD PORN STING
A Bradford County Pastor was arrested at his North Rome Church last Thursday after police conducted a county-wide child pornography predator sting and arrested six local men. According to North Central PA dot com, 40 year old Brad Swink, who has been the pastor at North Rome Wesleyan Church since 2018, was discovered to have ties to a pornographic video being shared from social media posts. Police say the task force investigated 15 homes for internet-related crimes against children thanks to cyber-tips from The National Center Missing and Exploited Children. Swink is in the Bradford County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail with a preliminary hearing April 22nd.
TWO JUVENILES ARRESTED FOR TIPPING PORT-A-JOHN
State police in Milton report that two juveniles were arrested for tipping a Port a John in New Berlin last Sunday. According to the Daily Item, Troopers say the two were seen causing the damage along on Water Street around 4:37pm. The damage is minimal – just 25 dollars, but charges are pending after police say they identified the supects and notified their parents. They will face charges and be required to make restitution.
NEW CAMERAS, METERS IN LEWISBURG
A new camera server purchase and installation for the Lewisburg Borough office was approved this week at the council meeting. According to the Daily Item, the borough currently has three cameras inside the borough office, three cameras outside the building, and 12 in Hufnagle Park and the current server has been in place for 8 years. The upgrade will also include installation of 11 digital parking meters that will allow the use of coins, QR codes and a kind of preloaded card. The two thousand dollars cost of the meters from CivilSmart is covered by the parking fund. They will be installed at the north side of Market Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets in about 3 months
LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP TEACHER COULD BE AMERICA’S FAVORITE
A Loyalsock Township School District teacher is on the cusp of potentially being named America’s Favorite Teacher through a fundraiser for The Planetary Society through Colossal Management, LLC. According to a press release, Middle school health and physical education teacher Heather Fink has reached the semi-finals of the competition in second place and is looking to secure more votes to win. The competition continues through tonight at 10pm. The winner of the competition will receive $25,000, a trip to Hawaii for two, an appearance in Reader’s Digest and a virtual Bill Nye school assembly.
