WILLIAMSPORT MAN LEAD POLICE ON HIGH SPEED CHASE
A Williamsport man who had faced drug charges for allegedly selling fentanyl to an informant last year, led city police on a high speed chase early Wednesday from Memorial Avenue to Route 15 near the Hepburnville exit. According to the Sun Gazette, Sean Patrick Ford began the pursuit with police when he was seen fleeing an area at a high rate of speed where police were investigating a shots-fired call, about 12:05am. Ford was apprehended in the neighborhood moments after he ran from his GMC SUV that had crashed near Marshall Avenue just off of Lycoming Creek Road. Police say Ford was impaired while he led the pursuit. He was arrested on multiple charges including resisting arrest and DUI. He was incarcerated in lieu of 25 thousand dollars bail.
MORE CHARGES FOR IMPRISONED DRUG SUSPECT
A man from Williamsport has been recommitted to Lycoming County Prison after an arraignment last week for more drug charges stemming from allegedly selling cocaine to an informant in 2023. According to the Sun Gazette, inmate Niklas David Keller was already in jail for charges filed by the Lycoming County Narcotics Unit for his involvement in a drug deal November 21st on Lloyd Street in Newberry, but now he faces three felony counts each of delivery of a controlled substance, and illegal use of a cellphone recently filed by state police. He remains incarcerated in lieu of an additional 100 thousand dollars bail.
NEW LEADERSHIP AT LYCOMING REGIUONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT
There is a new Lycoming Regional Police Chief after Chief Nathan DeRemer recently resigned from the position. According to a press release, Captain Christopher Kriner was named to the post by the Lycoming Regional Police Commission effective Thursday. LRPD commissioners say Kriner has over 24 years of experience and brings leadership and a dedication to public service with him to the position. The Lycoming Regional Police Commission meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month alternating between the borough building in Jersey Shore and the Municipal building in Williamsport. Details at LRPD.org.
PUBLIC MEETING ABOUT SHAMOKIN ROAD UPGRADE
As part of the recent GoShamokin initiative, the city of Shamokin and SEDA-COG will hold a public information session 6 p.m. Jan. 30 in the Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library. According to the News Item, the session will address the discussion surrounding the Independence Street makeover. Two point seven million dollars of federal funding was made available for the remodel. The city has applied for a $2 million multimodal state grant to complete the project.
WILLIAMSPORT WOMAN FACES CHILD ENDANGERMENT CHARGES
A Williamsport woman was recently in court answering to child endangerment charges after she called child services to say she couldn’t handle her 2 year old son. According to the Sun Gazette, police say that on July 9th, 22 year old Teanna Elizabeth Brennan allegedly told a caseworker that she had stopped her 2-year old from suffocating his younger sister then kicked him in the stomach. Brennan was told to take the children to UPMC Williamsport. She was charged with felony endangerment and simple assault and was taken into custody, but has since been released on 150 thousand dollars bail. During the same proceedings, Brennan waived her hearing on previous felony access device fraud charges from 2023 and posted 15 thousand dollars bail in that case.
WOMAN CHARGED WITH DUI AND ASSAULT ON AN OFFICER
A woman from Williamsport is free on ten thousand dollars bail after she was arrested for hit and run DUI and assaulting a police officer, after she was apprehended at her home following the crash on December 1st. According to the Sun Gazette, 58 year old Yvonne Fredin allegedly struck a parked car on the 27-hundred block of West Fourth Street in the city and kept driving to her home on Dove Street. Authorities say Fredin was followed home by the victim after which Fredin admitted to police her involvement in the DUI but then kicked and injured a female officer. Police say Fredin was lethargic and struggling to speak and stand up from her alleged impairment.
RIBBON CUTTING AT THE NEW WAWA
There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Maynard Street Wawa convenience store opening January 23rd. According to North Central PA dot com, the 6,049 square-foot store will open that morning at 8 with the ceremony at 8:30. The grand-opening day will feature free coffee and a hoagie building competition honoring first responders. The new store will be a part of Maynard Commons which just across from the campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology. Wawa is planning 13 more stores in the region by the end of 2025.
SO. COLUMBIA GRADUATE GETS TEACHING AWARD IN ALASKA
A native Pennsylvania woman who graduated from Southern Columbia Area High School in 2010 has been awarded a national teaching accolade for her teaching skills in an Alaska elementary classroom. According to the News Item, Emily Snyder, a first- and second-grade teacher at Nenana City School was given the Milken Award for increasing her students’ literacy scores by representatives from the Alaska Board of Education, and the Milken Family Foundation. Snyder receives an unrestricted check for 25 thousand dollars as the 74th recipient of the award since Alaska joined the Milken Educator Awards in 1990.
