ONE OF THREE COPPER THIEVES ON TRIAL IN UNION COUNTY
One of three men involved in theft of copper pipe from the former Laurelton Center who were apprehended by state police in February after attempting a second theft at the facility, was in court this week. According to the Daily Item, 60 year old Michael Shawn Klingensmith who is facing seven felonies including burglary, criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass and more, waived his preliminary hearing and will have a formal arraignment in May in Union County Court. In addition to Klingensmith, 37 year old Gerad Daniel Ogershok, of Russellton, and 41 year old Christopher Duane Hall, of New Kensington, face similar charges and remain incarcerated at the Union County Jail.
MAN STUCK IN CAR AFTER ACCIDENT FOR TEN HOURS
A Danville man suffered only minor injuries after he was trapped in his truck for 10 hours after an accident last Saturday night in Liberty Township in Montour County. According to state police, 45 year old Stacy Young was headed east on Route 642 near the intersection with Route 45 around 2am when he veered off the right hand side of the roadway, went down an embankment and got stuck between two trees. The property owner observed the truck stuck in the trees around noon Sunday. Young was rescued and transported to Geisinger Medical Center.
CITY TRANSFER STATION CLOSED FOR TWO DAYS NEXT WEEK
The Williamsport city transfer station will close next Wednesday and Thursday for mandatory maintenance and repair on the station’s equipment. According to North Central PA dot com, residents are asked to bring trash, waste and recyclables to the Montgomery landfill in the interim. After the two day closure, the Lycoming County Resource Management Services Transfer Station at 1475 W. Third St will reopen Friday, April 4 at 8:30am. PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS OUTDOOR ISSUES IN OUR REGION
There will be another public meeting in the Sportsmen’s Listening Tour in Hughesville April 16th. According to State Rep. Joe Hamm and House Game & Fisheries Committee Chairman David Maloney, they have announced the continuation of outreach efforts and will meet with hunters and anglers in north central Pa who want to provide feedback to address issues that affect them most. The third meeting in the series will be held at the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall on South Railroad Street at 6pm. SOUTHSIDE MAN ACCUSED OF RAPE
A South Williamsport man was jailed on March 20th after being accused of rape of a woman who was unconscious. According to the Sun Gazette, the victim told police she never gave consent to 32 year old Nicklas Vincent Gallickformerly of Long Island, NY, when the alleged assault took place, and was threatened with a gun and dragged from the home after she tried to refuse him. Gallick was distracted outside the home by his dog when the victim ran to a neighbor and called police. Gallick was charged with rape of an unconscious victim, sexual assault, strangulation and more. He is on Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 25 thousand dollars bail.
ALLENWOOD INMATE INDICTED FOR HAVING A WEAPON IN JAIL
An inmate at Allenwood State Prison has been indicted by a federal Grand Jury for possessing a weapon in the prison this January. According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, 32 year old Eric Rodriguez was allegedly found with a razor blade surrounded by duct tape that was fashioned to be a two and a quarter inch handle for the weapon. U.S. Attorney officials say the maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is five years and a fine but Rodriguez could face a period of supervised release following imprisonment if he is found guilty of the charges.
JERSEY SHORE PROPERTY TAXES CAN BE PAID AT JOURNEY BANK
The Jersey Shore School Board has announced more payment location options for residents who pay taxes in the district. According to the Sun Gazette, administrators at this week’s board meeting first approved a three year extension to the existing contract with Journey Bank as the school’s depository starting July 1st, then approved the process for taxpayers to pay in person at any Journey Bank in Lycoming or Clinton County. Mailing payments will still be an option with information forthcoming about the procedure in the near future.
PENNSYLVANIA DISTRICT ART CONTEST
High school artists from the 9th Congressional District are invited to submit their best work for Congressman Dan Meuser’s 2025 Congressional Art Competition. According to a press release, students from 9 counties as well as areas of parts of Berks, Luzerne, and Lycoming Counties can submit 2-dimensional framed art no larger than 26 x 26. The deadline for students in grades 9 to 12 is April 18th. Winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, and will also be featured on the Congressional Art Competition page which can be found along with a student release form and other guidelines at house.gov. A reception for the art show will be held April 24 at Walk In Art Center, in Schuylkill Haven.

* The Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin scored the 889th goal of his career last night and is now six goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record.
* Ovechkin posted the tying goal in the third period to help the Washington Capitals force overtime and gain a point. The Winnipeg Jets won 3-2 in the extra session.
* Ovechkin has 36 goals this season and is on track to reach 40 for a 14th time, also the most in league history, despite his injury absence.
