DELIVERY DRIVER INJURED IN SUNBURY ACCIDENT
A delivery driver was injured Monday in a three vehicle crash in Sunbury. According got the Sun Gazette, 38 year old Marcus Nash sustained injuries when he was traveling north on Rose Street and collided in the intersection with a pickup truck traveling west on West Third. The delivery truck then flipped to its side, overturning on a stopped Volkwagen in the roadway causing damage to the vehicle. Nash was transported to UPMC Williamsport after emergency crews removed the windshield of his truck to extricate him. Police did not say whether the driver of the truck, Amanda Quinton, of Linden, or the driver of the Volkswagen, Michelle Aikey of Sunbury required any treatment for injuries at the scene.
FATAL ACCIDENT FOR NORTHUMBERLAND MAN
A man from Northumberland County was killed in a traffic accident last Friday in Rush Township, Schuylkill County. According to the Schuylkill County coroner, 77-year-old Timothy McAndrews as pronounced dead at the scene of the rollover crash, which occurred Friday morning at 11:50 on Pine Creek Drive. Police said McAndrews had no passengers, and that the cause of the accident and manner of McAndrews’s death has not yet been determined.
RESOLUTION BETWEEN SCHOOL BOARD AND COUNTY SUPERVISORS
The Montgomery Area School District and the Clinton County supervisors have resolved some issues that will pave the way for the construction of a future junior/senior high school. According to the Sun Gazette, litigation following a ruling by Lycoming County Judge William Carlucci last year struck down several conditions of approval that the supervisors had placed upon the district, the appeal of which, went into Commonwealth Court. Officials now say that last week, the Montgomery School Board held a special meeting and signed off on several agreements that will have the district and township contribute together toward similar goals, including to the installation of a pedestrian walking path and the exploration of possible improvements to the intersection of Route 54, Brouse Road and Old Road.
FISHING TACKLE FUNDRAISER
There will be a fishing tackle fundraiser this Saturday hosted by the Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited. According to the Sun Gazette, the event will raise money for the group’s Service Partnership Program for Veterans and First Responders as well as for the conservation and restoration of cold-water resources in the region. The event will feature donated fishing items from fly and casting rods and reels to lures, clothing and artwork. The event is Saturday 9 to 1 at the Covenant Central Presbyterian Church on West Fourth St in Williamsport.
FUNERAL HOME DIRECTOR FACING NEGLIGENCE CHARGES
A Tyrone area funeral home director is facing charges of negligence and potential criminal charges after remains were found at their facility in various stages of decomposition last December. According to North Central PA dotcom, Garrett A. Singer of Singer-Kader-Neff Funeral Home and Cremation Services faces the charges after a client says her 92 year old mother’s unembalmed remains were found 6 weeks after the facility retrieved her body. In addition, State Police and the Centre County coroner’s office reported they had gone to Singer’s funeral home to investigate complaints about missing death certificates. The Centre County District Attorney says they will file criminal charges against Singer, this week
WARRANT OUT FOR OUT OF STATE MAN WHO VIOLATED PFA
A man from Connecticut was charged with indirect criminal contempt after violating a PFA by posting messages on Facebook about a local victim. According to North Central PA dot com, 34 year old Zach Comboni of Stratford allegedly made multiple social media posts about the woman and violated the protection from abuse order. Court records say Comboni had sent messages in 2018 threatening to kill 30 people, one of which was the woman from Mill Hall, and pleaded guilty to those charges. He served a year in prison and 3 years of probation.
CAUSE OF TWO LOCAL FIRES DETERMINED
The state police fire marshal has determined that two recent local fires were accidental in nature. According to the Sun Gazette, the Woodward Township fire officials said the two-alarm house fire early Sunday on Pine Run Road, from which the single occupant escaped, originated from a sparking extension cord. The blaze that affected one tenant at the two-room annex at Bing’s Motel on Lycoming Creek Road, broke out early last Thursday morning was determined to be an electrical issue that caused the blaze. The Red Cross assisted both victims after they were displaced.
STUDENTS AND CITY CREWS REFURBISH CEMETERY
Bucknell University students along with Sunbury city crews are working to restore Penn’s Cemetery, also known as the Sunbury Cemetery. According to Sunbury officials the students are trained in GIS mapping and will work to reclaim unidentified graves and map the entire cemetery. In addition to identifying and locating graves, students and workers are cleaning and resetting knocked over stones and repairing broken ones. Volunteers are welcome to join the effort.
