SCHOOL VAN DRIVER CHARGED WITH ASSAULT OF TWO CHILDREN
A school bus driver from Selinsgrove accused of sexual assaulting two children in a school van, is facing felony charges after an investigation by state police. According to the Daily Item, one of the children said that 78 year old Arthur R. Harner gave him ice cream to keep him quiet about the sexual abuse of another child he witnessed while being transported from New Story School in Penn Township, which provides autism and emotional support for students. Police say employees of the ice cream store where Harner took the children, told them they witnessed Harner exit his vehicle with his zipper down on January 22nd with the children in the van. Harner is in custody in lieu of 200 thousand dollars bail with a preliminary hearing February 24th.
MEAT PACKING PLANT THEFT
Police are seeking information about a burglary that happened at a Snyder County Meat packing plant. According to North Central PA dot com, State police at Selinsgrove are investigating a February 3rd break- in at National Beef Packing Company on South Old Trail in Monroe Township. A similar incident happened November 21st at the same location. The suspects stole a pallet of meat. If you have information about the theft or any suspects, call state police.
BRIDGE CLOSURES IN UNION COUNTY
There will be a two-month closure of two Union County bridges starting next Monday. According to the Daily Item, a section of Walnut Street in New Berlin Borough and portions of Creek Road in White Deer Township will have detours in place while crews begin the bridge construction projects for the season. Detours will be posted and motorists should use caution passed the work zones.
CROSSCUTTERS SEEKING HOST FAMILIES FOR 2025 SEASON
The Williamsport Crosscutters are looking to add to their list of host families who will potentially accommodate the players during the upcoming 2025 season. According to a press release, the 2025 season runs from June 4 until Sept. 3 and players typically range in age from 17 to 23. FATAL ACCIDENT KILLS BENTON MAN
A man from Benton sustained fatal injuries in a car crash on Pole Bridge Road in Jackson Township on Sunday around 2pm. According to North Central PA dot com, State police from Bloomsburg responded to the Columbia County scene and found 35 year old Daniel Hartman’s car in a ditch on the left side of the road resting on its passenger side. First responders say Hartman was found trapped and deceased in the vehicle that police say went off the roadway as a result of the icy conditions.
MULTIPLE VICTIMS OF SNAP BENEFIT SCAM
The Williamsport Bureau of Police says that unknown fraudulent transactions have been reported by almost 30 victims who use SNAP benefits with an EBT account or an electronic benefits transaction card. According to the Sun Gazette, police investigations show that transactions in some cases took place in the Bronx and New Jersey. Police and the Department of Human Services have been warning about alleged skimming incidents in which a card reader is compromised and illegally collects data, allowing the suspect to use the card and its PIN later to steal funds from the card. PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED COM MERGER
A public input hearing is this Thursday and local leaders representing Tioga County want to remind the public of the upcoming discussion on the merger of Frontier and Verizon Communications in Wellsboro. According to Representative Clint Owlett, of Liberty, and Representative Tina Pickett, of Towanda, the hearing is a chance to make a case for the kind of service parents, families and business owners need as the Public Utility Commission reviews the proposed merger.
