FATAL HOUSE FIRE IN FLEMINGTON
A Clinton County teenager died in a house fire early Sunday after rescue efforts by occupants of the home before EMS arrived were unsuccessful. According to Pennsylvania State police, when authorities arrived on the scene at 209 High St. in Flemington, they were notified that a person was still trapped inside, and due to the partially collapsed structure, rescue attempts were challenging. When crews could enter the home, they discovered the body of 18 year old Alissa Shayla DeManno. Police say 57 year old Teresa Meadows, 19 year old Jaime and 21 year old Nathan Meadows escaped the blaze. Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshals are set to to investigate the fire’s origin during the ongoing investigation.
HOMELESS WOMAN JAILED FOR CAR THEFT
A 46 year old homeless woman is in jail after her arrest last Sunday for allegedly stealing a car from McClintock Alley January 31st in Jersey Shore. According to the Sun Gazette, Lycoming Regional Police say Diana Babb was found in the car by authorities at the 100 block of Maynard Street with an investigation showing she had used the victim’s credit cards that were left in the vehicle. Babb was arraigned on felony theft charges, receiving stolen property, driving with a DUI suspended license and more. Her bail was set at 25 thousand dollars.
SHAMOKIN MARCHING BAND PERFORMS THIS WEEK IN FLORIDA
Marching band students from the Shamokin Area High School left for Florida this weekend to perform at Universal Studios during a two-day visit to the park this week. According to the News Item, band director Kevin Styer said the 56 member band are set to perform in Florida tomorrow at 10am, while marching through the streets of the park. He also said the kids are looking forward to the warm weather. The band returns home to Pennsylvania Thursday.
MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS EVENT FRIDAY
Students at Susquehanna University are holding a mental health awareness event this Friday to combat bullying and foster a culture of kindness. According to North Cetnral PA dot com, Susquehanna University’s P.S. I Love You chapter invites the public to wear purple in support of the nonprofit organization’s efforts to promote compassion and support for others. COUPLES DEATH MAY HAVE BEEN MURDER-SUICIDE
The Lycoming County Coroner said that the rural Lycoming County couple found dead last Wednesday afternoon were involved in a murder-suicide incident. According to Penn Live, Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. said that during the investigation, he discovered that the 72 year old husband shot his 68 year old wife, and then himself in their Post Road home in Cogan House Township, and that it may have been a planned event with both parties having major medical issues. Officials say the two were discovered by a man who held their power of attorney. The coroner says he is still attempting to notify family members before he releases their identity.
LOYALSOCK RESTAURANT FIRE DEEMED ACCIDENTAL
The state police fire marshal investigated Friday the cause and origin of last week’s fire at the East Third Street Long John Silver’s in Loyalsock Township. According to state police at Montoursville, the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. Multiple fire companies responded to the blaze that was called in about 9pm last Thursday and arrived to smoke pouring from the eaves of the building. The Golden Strip reopened after 10pm.
COPPER WIRE STOLEN IN WYSOX TOWNSHIP
Pennsylvania State police in Towanda were recently called to a property in Wysox Township after a property owner there said spools of copper wire were stolen from him. According to North Cetnral PA dot com, the victim says 100 thousand dollars worth of spools of copper wire were taken from his property between November 7th and December 6th of last year. The theft occurred along Golden Mile Road in Bradford County. If you have information about the theft, call state police at 570-265-2186.
MORE PHEASANTS TO BE RELEASED THIS MONTH
Areas of Centre, Union Columbia and Northumberland Counties will see a late-season pheasant release this week. According to the PA Game Commission 240 thousand pheasants have been stocked in PA so far this fall and winter, but on February 12th and 13th, about 8,400 pheasants, mostly hens, will be released at select locations. Officials say that February stockings should be considered experimental, and may or may not be repeated in future years depending on the 2025 results.
