WEATHER RESTRICTIONS FROM ICY WEATHER EVENT IN PA
There is a Tier 4 restriction on I-80 and I-180 and other interstates throughout Northeast Pennsylvania today with the icy conditions. According to PennDOT, No commercial vehicles, busses, RVs or passenger cars towing trailers are permitted on Interstate 80 between the Clinton and Union County line (mm194) and the Columbia and Luzerne County line(mm247). Speed limits will be restricted to 45 mph on these roadways for all vehicles while the vehicle restrictions are in place.
When conditions improve, PennDOT will remove the travel restrictions.
POLICE ARREST MOTHER WHO ASSAULTED DAUGHTER
A mother who police say hit her daughter in the head with a surge protector was taken into custody January 31 in Williamsport. According to the Sun Gazette, officers responded to a welfare check at Amy Esposito’s Dewey Avenue apartment where they detected the strong smell of marijuana and discovered the 8-year-old who they suspect had been assaulted. Esposito was charged with a felony charge of endangering the welfare of a child and assault charges, she also faces previous drug possession charges from 2024. Her bail was set at 15 thousand dollars.
NEW JUDGE IN COLUMBIA AND MONTOUR COUNTIES
The Pennsylvania Senate this week approved the appointment for Anthony McDonald who is set to become judge of the Court of common pleas for Columbia and Montour Counties. According to the Daily Item, McDonald has served the court in Columbia County and has been historically involved in non-profit work throughout the Berwick area. Judge McDonald is a 1991 graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County and 1994 graduate of The Dickinson School of Law and says he is committed to serving the citizens of Columbia and Montour counties with fairness, integrity, and a dedication to justice.
EMISSION TESTING CHANGES COMING IN PA
There could be changes coming to Pennsylvania’s vehicle emissions testing program after the Senate approved legislation that removes seven counties, including Lycoming County, from the federal Vehicle Emissions Inspection and Maintenance program. According to Senator Gene Yaw, Senate Bill 35 is set to modernize Pennsylvania’s vehicle emissions program and provide significant cost savings for motorists here. The Senate also approved Bill 149, which could exempt the five most recent model year vehicles from emissions tests in Pennsylvania joining other eastern states in the federally mandated Northeast Ozone Transport Region. Both bills go to the House of Representatives for consideration.
LUZERNE WOMAN ARRESTED FOR SMUGGLING CONTRABAND
A Luzerne County woman is facing contraband charges after prison officials say she smuggled drugs to an inmate at SCI Coal Township. According to State police at Stonington, prison officials were tipped off from reviewing video and audio calls between 51 year old Christine Renee Bogle the inmate 38 year old Angus Alphonso Garrison that Bogle was planning on bringing Suboxone, a drug designed to treat opioid dependence, and other drugs to the prison facility during a visit. Garrison was isolated until the contraband was recovered and he faces new felony charges.
TOBOGGAN SLIDE PRICE CHANGES FOR THE WEEKEND
The Eagles Mere Toboggan slide opened last weekend to huge crowds, requiring many to stand in line for hours to get a chance to ride the ice slide that hasn’t been constructed in over ten years. According to the Sullivan County News & Bulletin Board Facebook page for this weekend, they are modifying their pricing and procedure charging 30 dollars per sled per ride, utilizing cash only. The Eagles Mere Volunteer Fire Company Toboggan Slide fundraiser will stay open for as long as the weather allows.

* Pete Alonso agreed to a two-year, $54 million with New York Mets that includes an opt-out after the first year, finally re-signing with the team that drafted him after a drawn-out winter of negotiations.
* He will earn $30 million in 2025 including a signing bonus, and has a $24 million player option for 2026.
