POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL DUI IN PLUNKETTS CREEK
A car crash took the life of a 22 year-old driver who hit a large tree in Plunketts Creek Township yesterday. According to the Sun Gazette, the Lycoming County Coroner said Jake William Wallace was traveling south on Route 87 near Little Brea Creek Road and went off the road around 12:45 am Wednesday morning . He was not wearing a seatbelt. Police say a female passenger; 23 year old Alexia Locricchio was injured and taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport, and later transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. State police at Montoursville are investigating the accident as a fatal DUI and will release more information when available.
TWO PEOPLE CAUGHT STEALING FROM WALMART
A 17 year-old girl, allegedly in a relationship with a 45 year-old man from Watsontown, was coerced to steal from the Lewisburg Walmart on several occasions. According to North Central PA dot com, police say they were tipped off to a couple in the store December 26th committing retail theft . They say there is video footage of Quay Lynn Raup and the girl stealing from the store on three other occasions in December. Raup was charged with three misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors and a misdemeanor retail theft charge.
CU-CLEARFIELD CAMPUS TO CLOSE IN 2027
The Clearfield location of Commonwealth University will be closing at the end of the 2026-2027 academic years; partially due to declining enrollment. According to the Lock Haven Express, school administrators say current Clearfield students, faculty and staff will receive full support during this transition and that students can still enroll for the Physician Assistant and Associate of Science in Nursing programs for summer or fall 2025, giving them the ability to complete their degree by 2027. The closure does not affect campuses at Bloomsburg, Lock Haven or Mansfield.
MAYNARD STREET WAWA OPENS TODAY IN WILLIAMSPORT
The new Wawa at 164 Maynard Street in Williamsport opens tomorrow at 8am with a ribbon cutting featuring free coffee and a “Hoagies for Heroes competition” to recognize first responders in our area. According to Wawa officials say the new store at Maynard Commons is 6 thousand plus square-feet and has eight fuel dispensers as well as EV chargers on site. A Chick-fil-A fast-food restaurant is slated to open next to Wawa later this year. Wawa officials say by the end of 2025, there will be 13 new stores in central Pennsylvania which include locations in Lewisburg and Coal Township
MAN ACCUSED OF SHOOTING GIRLFRIEND IN FEAR IN COURT
A man from Milton accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend will appear in Northumberland County court February 4th for his preliminary hearing. According to the Daily Item, 46-year-old Jared Wolfe told police he thought his girlfriend was trying to kill him after he had smoked what he thought was marijuana and was scared so he allegedly grabbed a pistol and shot and killed Jane White around 2pm on January 3rd. Wolfe fled the scene and went to a relative’s house on 5th Street in Sunbury after the incident and was approached by Sunbury Police who took him into custody. He remains incarcerated in the Northumberland County jail.
NEW K9 KYLO COMES TO WILLIAMSPORT
A new Canine Officer has joined the Williamsport Bureau of Police. According to the Sun Gazette, a 12 thousand dollar contract to train K9 Kylo was approved by City Council last year. City officials say the department’s K9 program is funded through generous public donations including some from Pennsylvania Skill. Two other dogs on the force Niko and Tacoma are also trained to sniff out narcotics, as well as apprehend and track criminal suspects. The Williamsport Bureau of Police K9 Corps was established in 1979.
EAGLESMERE ICE SLIDE TO OPEN NEXT WEEK
The Eagles Mere Toboggan Slide is hoping to be built and ready for the public next weekend after an 11 year slide drought. According to Sullivan County Authorities, with the coldest temperatures of the year, the ice that makes up the slide which comes from the lake is set up and 11 to 12 inches thick by Saturday with a tentative opening for January 31st at 6:30pm depending on conditions. Volunteers move and place the 1000 ice blocks of the slide that move a rider up to 45 miles per hour.
