CONVICTED DRUG DEALER INCARCERATED AGAIN
A convicted drug dealer who was free on supervised bail from an incident in October, is in custody again for allegedly selling drugs to an informant in Williamsport last week. According to the Sun Gazette, officials from Lycoming County’s Narcotics Unit say Albert Angel Cunningham used his apartment on Washington Blvd as a base for his alleged drug operations and sold marijuana to an undercover informant between January 13th and January 15th. He was charged with felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance and remains in jail in luie of 50 thousand dollars bail.
WOMAN ASSAULTED WHILE SHE MOVES OUT OF HOME
A woman moving out of an Upper Fairfield home this week was assaulted by her boyfriend before she escaped the home and fled to UPMC Williamsport. According to the Sun Gazette, police say 59 year-old Matthew Danie Carey shot a double barrel shotgun through the wall while the woman was in the home packing her belongings, before picking up a knife and holding it to her throat, causing injuries. Carey was arrested a short time later at the home on Kuhns Road. He was charged with simple assault and reckless endangerment and is free on 25 thousand dollars bail.
FRIGID COLD WEATHER THREATENS THE AREA
A cold weather advisory is in place until noon today. According to Accuweather, the late night and early morning hours will bring the coldest temperatures and could cause hypothermia and frostbite to those who are not protected from the cold. Second Chance animal Sanctuary suggests bringing pets indoors or at the very least adding extra insulation to dog houses and make cat shelters from plastic totes, foam coolers or other insulation with straw on the bottom. A Code Blue warming Center is available at First Church Williamsport at 604 Market Street nightly, from 9pm until 7:30am.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS NEXT WEEK IN TURBOT TOWNSHIP
There will be road restrictions next week on Broadway Road in Turbot Township, in Northumberland County. According to PennDOT, soil remediation work will be performed along Route 254 in the eastbound lane due to a previous crash. Coming up on Monday, watch for the work zone along Broadway Road at the Interstate 80 overpass in the right lane between 8am and 4pm.
CAMARO FOUND DAMAGED AFTER THEFT FROM PAXINOS LOT
A car stolen from a Northumberland County car dealer last week was found with heavy damage in a parking lot in Paxinos. According to State police in Stonington a 2018 Chevy Camaro was taken from Mulligan’s Auto Exchange along Route 61and found in bad shape Thursday in the parking lot of the Knights Inn on West Valley Avenue. The man from Shamokin who owns the Camaro was selling it on consignment at Mulligans and noticed it missing. When he asked the general manager about the car, they discovered it was missing. When they checked surveillance footage, they saw the car leaving the lot around 12:30am Thursday. Police are investigating and will release more information when it’s available.
NEW CITY OFFICERS HIRED
Williamsport Bureau of Police has brought two new officers on to the 51-officer team after Williamsport City Council approved the hires. According to the Sun Gazette, 29 year old Dalton Lovell, from Williamsport, received his Act 120 Police certification at the Mansfield Police academy in 2020 and is currently employed with the Lycoming Regional Police Department. 27 year old Mason Merrill of Bradford County is currently employed at UPMC Regional EMS and plans to attend the Mansfield Police academy this year for his Act 120 certification. City police say one Williamsport officer is retiring from the complement this year.
FREE MEDIATOR TRAINING AVAILABLE IN UNION COUNTY
Members of the public interested in learning about becoming a volunteer mediator with Susquehanna Valley Mediation can take advantage of free training beginning at the end of February at locations in Lewisburg and Selinsgrove at the Union County Resource Center and at the Union-Snyder Community Action Agency. Volunteer mediators learn how to help mediate conflicts within the community involving child custody, families in crisis, prison reentry, families in recovery, eldercare, neighbors, landlord-tenant relations, and workplace disputes, with active training making them eligible for the commitment for two years. PASSENGER RAIL COMING SOON BETWEEN NYC AND SCRANTON
The reality of passenger rail service to New York City from Scranton is getting closer. According to PennDOT, for the first time in 55 years Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Rail Authority New Jersey Department of Transportation, New Jersey Transit, and Amtrak are all project partners in working to restore passenger service to this corridor. Next steps in the project are happening after the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law investments were distributed in the Commonwealth. The route from Scranton to New York City last served passenger trains in 1970 as part of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad.
