MAN INJURED IN WEEKEND MOTORCYCLE CRASH

A 24 year old man from Danville was injured in a motorcycle crash Sunday.  According to State police, 24-year-old Bradley Palladino lost control of his motorcycle on Klondike Road at Hilkert Road in the gravel.  Palladino was thrown from the bike into a ditch and was transported to Geisinger Medical Center for a leg injury.  State police say they issued a citation to Palladino for speeding.

TWO CAUGHT FOR THEFT BY AI SOFTWARE

A pair of thieves went back to a store where they had stolen before, and were caught by new facial recognition software.  According to North Central PA dot com, 20-year-old Carmine Manuel Villafane and 26-year-old Ariel Kathryn Rogers both of Tobyhanna were seen on camera in the Renco Ace Hardware store on Route 11 in Scott Township in April stealing batteries.  When they returned in July, Villafane was recognized first because of a prior theft arrest in Milford, and police used new software to analyze the photos, police then made an identification of Rogers from her connection to Villafane, with whom she lives.  The pair were charged with criminal conspiracy and retail theft from the 500 dollars-worth of merchandise they allegedly took.

RIVER VALLEY TRANSIT ANNOUNCES NEW STRATEGIC PLAN

There is a new strategic plan for River Valley Transit Authority that was introduced this week after it was recently approved  by the authority board.  According to the Sun Gazette, the plan is meant to provide continued excellent service to riders and strengthen partnerships with the community the bus service serves.  Key goals and an implementation plan on how to achieve these goals can be read in full at rideRVT.com.  RVTA serves approximately 70,000 people across both Lycoming and Clinton counties.

WATER SHED CONSERVATION MEETING TONIGHT IN WILLIAMSPORT

A meeting to hear about programs promoting research and conservation of local streams and watersheds by Matt Kaunert, Director of the Clean Water Institute and Research and Teaching Associate of Biology at Lycoming College, is tonight in Williamsport.  According to the Sun Gazette, Kaunert, who is a doctoral candidate regarding Eastern Hellbender conservation at Ohio University and as part of the Institute, helps students and the public grow in understanding, protection, and restoration of local watersheds including Loyalsock Creek projects, plankton sampling on Rose Valley Lake and more. The event is at Covenant Central Presbyterian Church at 807 W. Fourth Street at 7pm.

MAN SEEN BY TROOPER STEALING MOTORCYCLE

State Police at Stonington said they caught a man in the act of stealing a motorcycle September 19th in Shamokin.  According to North Central PA dot com, 36 year old Kennard Burto Baker III, was seen by a trooper who was driving in the area of W. Willow and S. Sixth Streets, attempting to take a 2008 black Kawasaki motorcycle.  Shamokin Police were also on the scene.  Baker was searched and was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was arraigned with bail set at 5 thousand dollars unsecured and has a preliminary hearing October 26th.

VICTIM FROM IUP AREA FATAL SHOOTING IDENTIFIED

The Indiana Coroner has identified the man who was killed in the shooting that left 1 dead and 8 others wounded early Sunday at the Chevy Chase Community Center in White Township near the IUP campus.  22-year-old Jamar Herriot Jr. of Homestead, FL,was killed by the gunfire,  and an unidentified 18-year-old man from Chicago was critically injured, others sought treatment at area hospitals.  Police are seeking surveillance footage of the area the night of the shooting in which they believe there were multiple shooters.  Police say150 people were believed to be present at the event.  There is a 15 thousand dollar reward for information leading to the identification of the suspects.

COMMONWEALTH FLAGS AT HALF STAFF THIS WEEK FOR ISRAEL

Gov. Josh Shapiro has ordered United States and Commonwealth flags on all Commonwealth facilities, public buildings, and grounds to fly at half-staff through this Friday in recognition of the lives lost in Israel.  The governor’s office announced the recognition yesterday morning after condemning the attacks in Israel by Hamas. 

BRIDGE PROJECT TOMORROW IN SHAMOKIN

A maintenance project is happening tomorrow on the Veterans Memorial Bridge in the City of Sunbury and Shamokin Dam Borough. On October 12, a PennDOT maintenance crew will be performing work on the bridge.  Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions while work is being performed between 7:30am and 3:30pm.
