TRUCK OVERTURNS NEAR CSVT RIVER BRIDGE RAMP

An accident shut down Route 15 yesterday afternoon for several hours after a tractor trailer hauling canned peaches overturned on the ramp way.  According to Penn Dot, the  closure of the Route 15 SB on ramp from Route 147 SB and CSVT River Bridge in Northumberland County caused drivers to use Routes 405 and 11 as a detour.  According to the Hummels Wharf Fire Rescue Facebook page, the driver of the truck got out of the overturned vehicle without assistance, and it took first responders about an hour and half to clear the accident so the tow company could take the truck.

INTERNET ACCESS COMING TO NEWBERRY PARK

Williamsport City Council has authorized a resolution allowing the city to purchase internet access so that surveillance cameras can be installed at Newberry Park.  According to the Sun Gazette, a contract with River Valley Internet was approved after the company offered to install and provide Wi-Fi service for the system that will ultimately assist the city’s public safety personnel including city police and Bureau of Codes officers.  Mayor Derek Slaughter has made public safety a top priority during his administration, with the new camera system similar to what has been installed in Shaw Place Park.

MORE INTERSTATE SLOWDOWNS THIS WEEK

Interstate 180 westbound will be slow again today due to epoxy being applied to the structure over the Loyalsock Creek in Montoursville Borough and Loyalsock Township in Lycoming County.  According to PernnDOT, watch for the left lane to be restricted near mile marker 23, just past Loyalsock Avenue / Route 87.  This is part of a two-year roadway resurfacing project of Interstate 180 between Warrensville Road in Loyalsock Township to west of the Lycoming Mall Road interchange in Muncy Township.   Traffic can back up significantly about a mile from the construction area during peak travel hours.  Use 511pa dot com to check road conditions anywhere in the commonwealth 24/7. 

AUTOMATIC VOTING STARTS IN PENNSYLVANIA

It was announced yesterday that registering to vote will be able to take place at the DMV for those getting or renewing a driver’s license there.  According to the Shapiro Administration, DMV workers will no longer offer the chance to register to vote verbally, but it will be offered as prompts on the computer screen used to confirm information for DMV customers.  Pennsylvania is now the 24th state to implement automatic voter registration. National Voter Registration Day was Monday.

FED EX DRIVER ARRESTED FOR CAUSING ACCIDENT, DUI

Police say a Fed Ex Driver who allegedly said he had a death wish was highly intoxicated and caused an accident Monday afternoon on Interstate 180, just west of the Loyalsock Township line.  According to the Sun Gazette, 50 year old Brad Loomis was the driver of the truck who witnesses said intentionally ran Penny Pardoe off the roadway, causing the accident that ended up in the grassy median.  No injuries were reported.  Police took the Fed Ex driver into custody and he was charged with DUI, felony aggravated assault and recklessly endangering.  Loomis was committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 95 thousand dollars bail.

HIGH SPEED CHASE LEADS TO AN ARREST

There was a high speed chase that ended in an accident in Snyder County September 6th.  According to State police at Selinsgrove, they attempted to pull over a blue Suzuki motorcycle on Route 147 at the Northumberland and Union County line after the driver, later identified as 19 year old Westley Eugene Palmer Jr passed them at a high rate of speed.  After the trooper’s sirens and lights were engaged, Palmer took the exit ramp in Monroe Township and went on the berm around a pulled over pickup truck until he then hit the back of another truck at the end of the exit ramp.  Palmer was found driving with a suspended license, no current registration for the motorcycle, and has an active bench warrant for his arrest in Lycoming County. He was charged misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and various traffic summaries.

CARD SKIMMER FOUND AT LUZERNE COUNTY WALMART

A Luzerne County Walmart was found to have a card skimmer, an electronic device that steals card numbers unbeknownst to users at a self-checkout register.  According to the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department says anyone who used the store’s self checkout register number 39 anywhere between September 6 and September 18 should contact their card company and investigate whether they are the victim of the fraud.  No other devices were found at the store.  Pictures of the suspects police are attempting to identify are also available to see on the Wilkes-Barre police Facebook page, Call  Wilkes-Barre Township Police with information at 570-208-4635 x268.

FETTERMAN LEADS NEED FOR NO DRESS CODE ON SENATE FLOOR

The dress code has been changed in the Senate after former Pa Lt. Governor, John Fetterman now a PA State Senator, continued to wear his signature casual clothing while voting in Washington near the Senate floor.  According to ABC 27 Harrisburg, the chamber’s Sergeant-at-Arms who are known to be the Senate’s clothes policy police, will no longer enforce a dress code on the Senate floor.  Recently the change allows Senators to choose what they wear, but staffers must still adhere to the dress code.  Majority leader Chuck Schumer made a statement without mentioning Fetterman, but said he will continue to choose to wear a suit to work.

Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani had elbow surgery yesterday, and his doctors expect he will be able to hit on Opening Day next season and pitch in 2025.  Ohtani tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow Aug. 23, but he continued as a batter through Sept. 3 until an oblique strain.
