FORMER PRESIDENT BUSH IN WILLIAMSPORT THIS WEEKEND

Former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush will attend the unveiling and dedication of the final installation of the Bases Loaded Statue project this Sunday at 5pm in Williamsport.  According to the Sun Gazette, the likenesses of the three new statues watching from behind home plate  – will resemble Cy Young, Jackie Robinson and President George W. Bush. The ceremony will include other notable visitors and others including Rachel Robinson, the widow of Jackie Robinson, Baseball Commissioner Robert Manfred Jr., and Governor Tom Wolf.  The final installation of the project that has commemorated the heritage of Little League in Williamsport, coincides with the 75th anniversary of the first little league game played here, June 6th, 1939.  Road closures around Market Square will start at noon Sunday with detours in place.

MAN ON RIVERWALK WITH KNIFE ARRESTED

A man known to Williamsport police as “Diggs” was arrested for threatening people with a knife on the Susquehanna Riverwalk Monday night.  According to the Sun Gazette, police say Mychael Diggs has been known to ride a bike around the city yelling nonsense.  After victims described the suspect wearing a black Police hat, police went to the man’s home and found it was the suspect.  Diggs is in custody under charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and other charges.  He was committed to Lycoming County prison on no bail.

MAN ACCUSED OF INDECENT ASSAULT WITH MINOR SOUGHT BY POLICE

Police are currently seeking the whereabouts of a Lock Haven man accused of aggravated indecent assault of a child.  According to the Clinton County District Attorney’s office, Mill Hall Borough police issued an arrest warrant for Jimmy “Hank” Carlton Henry from Castenea Township for incidents that occurred in April of 2020.  Anyone with information about where police can find Henry should call the Mill Hall police department 570-726-4597 or Clinton County Communication Center 748-2936

CULINARY STUDENTS SERVE AT LITTLE LEAGUE

Penn College culinary students are busy for the next week or so feeding the players coaches and chaperones contributing their skills for 12 hundred meals per day.  According to WNEP, most of the students who work at LeJeune Chef for Little League week, gain invaluable experience preparing meals for the Little League culture, which can include unique ingredients for the international players who visit our area.  The number of meals to prepare has gone up from recent years with the Little League roster at 20 teams now, who derive the energy they need to play all week from the nourishment Penn College students provide. 

ALLEGED ARSONIST OF MOTORCYCLE CLUB FOUND GUILTY

A Cogan Station man was found guilty in Lycoming County court Wednesday of felony arson for his role in burning down the Road Knight Motorcycle Club in Hepburn Township in February of 2020.  According to North Central PA dot com, evidence against 43 year old Damon Millington shows he set the fire and intimidated his then girlfriend for knowing about the crime.  Police say Millington was in custody on unrelated charges when he confessed about the fire. The 2-day trial in Williamsport has Millington back in jail, awaiting his sentencing hearing.

POLICE SEEK GUNMAN IN SECOND CITY SHOOTING OF THE YEAR

A person who shot a 20 year old man in his apartment on Hepburn Street last Wednesday is still on the loose and police trying to find the gunman.  According to the Sun Gazette, Ziar Young, was shot around 2:30am August 10th.   Young had been in trouble with the law for drug charges filed against him from last year for selling crack cocaine to an informant but he had waived his preliminary hearing and was awaiting trial to come up in the court system.  There was a May 23rd shooting in the same area as Young’s apartment and police are searching for evidence in that case, too.  An autopsy on Young will be performed today and anyone with information is being asked to call Williamsport city police.

PSU REPORTS A CASE OF MONKEYPOX

A Penn State student has contracted Monkeypox according to the Penn State University website.  The Pennsylvania Department of health is working with Penn State officials while they monitor the case of the student who is iolated in an off campus apartment.  State Health officials say four ways monkeypox can spread is making direct contact with the rash or scab of monkeypox, kissing or other contact with body fluids, contact with fabrics in contact with the pox and getting bitten by an infected animal. A person is contagious until a new skin layer grows where a prior rash was.

BEER COMPETITION AT RUSTY RAIL THIS FALL

In October, certified beer judges will decide what brewery creates the best home brew in Pennsylvania.  Earlier this summer, the inaugural “Pennsylvania Homebrew Invitational” began in Philadelphia as a traveling tournament around several areas in the state.  The winners of the 5 competitions that have already occurred will be brought together at Rusty Rail Brewing in Mifflinburg.  Fifteen breweries will submit their best offering to a panel who will decide which brewer will win two thousand dollars cash, a custom made championship belt a chance to pour at an upcoming beer festival in Philadelphia and of course the bragging rights.  Tickets for the event on October 16th are available online.
