OVERTURNED TRUCK CLOSES I-80
I-80 Westbound was shut down just after 3pm yesterday after a tanker truck overturned near mile marker 212. According to North Central PA dot com, PennDOT closed both lanes of 80 in Turbot Township causing a backlog of westbound traffic that was relieved through the afternoon by a detour along I-180 west to 220 north. The interstate reopened after 8pm last night. Police say there was a car also involved in this crash, but no word on the condition on any of the drivers involved in the accident.
DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE IN LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP
A Williamsport man with a PFA against him has been arrested for a domestic disturbance that happened 9:30 pm Saturday night in Loyalsock Township. According to the Sun Gazette, Anthony James II broke into a home on Tinsman Avenue and attacked the woman who lived there, threatening her and her family and choking her until she could not breathe.. There was a call placed to state police during the incident, but no word on who placed that call. James fled the scene after police arrived but was apprehended shortly after, James was remorseful in court and was incarcerated at the Lycoming County Prison on no bail.
MASTRIANO WANTS TO PROPOSE NEW DEBATE RULES BEFORE NOVEMBER
In an effort to engage Attorney General Josh Shapiro in two debates during the race for the governor’s office this October, State Senator Doug Mastriano has proposed cutting out all outside organizers and taking debate questions only from campaign selected moderators. According to Penn Live, Mastriano wants independent campaigns to organize and pay for the debates which would last 90 minutes. Shapiro’s communication director said they will refuse the proposal, saying there is a long history of independent moderators asking fair direct questions about the candidate’s track record.
UTAH LITTLE LEAGUE PLAYER GETS SUPPORT FROM FAVE PLAYER
The 12 year old Little league player from Utah who suffered a serious head injury in a bunk bed fall Sunday and has made amazing progress in his recovery, has gotten support from one of his favorite baseball players. In a post for Easton Oliverson on Facebook, Mookie Betts of the LA Dodgers sent a video message wishing Easton well in his recovery. According to the family’s social media update, Easton has made miraculous progress and is exceeding recovery expectations. The Mountain Region champions Snow Canyon Little League selected Easton’s brother, Brogan as the alternate to play in his place in their game coming up Friday at 3pm in Lamade Stadium.
COVID STRIKES SOME LITTLE LEAGUE PLAYERS
Some members of a few teams at the Little League World series have tested positive for COVID-19 and are in isolation. According to the Sun Gazette, the health and safety protocols by Little League International require the teams to follow the isolation guidelines for those affected, but the team is still permitted to stay in the International Grove without restrictions. No illnesses are expected to affect the World series games to be played, and none of the names of the players or teams who have tested positive are being announced due to privacy concerns.
FORMER TEACHER RESENTENCED
A Clinton County Judge has revoked parole and imposed a new sentence upon a former high school teacher who plead guilty in September 2020 to committing sexual assault against a student in 2018. According to Penn Live, Cole Black who was a music teacher and soccer coach at Central Mountain admitted to the crimes and will be eligible for parole again by the end of this year, but his sentence sends him to prison until December 2023.
DJ AT FUNDRAISER SAVES CHILDREN
A DJ from Minersville at the Berwick fundraiser where a driver plowed into the crowd, is credited for saving the lives of a group of children who were in the path of the car that police say was intentionally aimed for the people. According to North Central PA dot com, Brent Beckley was the disc jockey at the fundraising event for the family in Nescopeck who’s home burned August 5th, and jumped to push a small group of children, including two of his own out of the path of the car driven by Adrian Sura Reyes who later was charged with two counts of Beckley sustained a broken wrist a broken ribs, as well as internal injuries from being hit by the car. Reyes is in Columbia County Prison awaiting a preliminary hearing August 29th.
RESTRICTIONS FOR STOCKING FISH IN PA ON THE WAY
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has proposed tighter restrictions on fish stocking in the state, in order to contain the spread of invasive species and aquatic pathogens. According to PennLive, anyone stocking fish in Pennsylvania must first obtain authorization from the agency through a simple, no-fee, user-friendly stocking authorization process. The regulations could go into effect by January 1st, but the commissioners’ Fisheries and Hatcheries Committee will discuss the proposal at a public meeting first, Sept. 28 at the commission’s headquarters in Harrisburg. Public comment has been extended to September 17th and you can participate by going to fishandboat.com.
