LITTLE LEAGUE PLAYER WHO FELL FROM BUNK IMPROVES

12 year-old  Easton Oliverson, the Little League player from Utah who suffered a serious head injury after falling from a bunk at the Little League barracks Sunday is improving rapidly, according to a post on the family’s Facebook page for Easton.  According to the update, Easton has been removed from assisted breathing and is responding to therapy and treatment already, and is expected to continue to improve at Geisinger’s Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, where he was flown after the overnight accident.  According to Penn Live, Little League International has responded to the accident by saying they will remove the bunk beds from the dormitory. Easton’s father, Jace Oliverson, is an assistant coach for the Snow Canyon Little League team and says they are grateful for the prayers of the community.

FUGITIVE WOMAN IN CUSTODY

A Piatt Township woman, who police say was a fugitive, was taken into custody last month and has since been arraigned on possession of drug charges and tampering with evidence.  According to the Sun Gazette, 38 year old Tasha Marie Wall was pursued by Tiadaghton Valley regional Police after she was seen hiding in the bushes behind her home.  Wall resisted arrest and was found trying to allegedly destroy the methamphetamine she had in her pocket.  She was arraigned re-incarcerated under no bail.

SOUTHEAST PA PARKS PROHIBIT SOME GUNS

DCNR has made changes to four state parks in Southeastern PA prohibiting rifles and handguns there.  The new policy for Evansburg, Marsh Creek and Nockamixon State parks and White Clay Creek Preserve only allows shotguns, muzzleloaders and bow hunting.  According to an news release by PA DCNR, all center fire and rim fire rifles and handguns are prohibited for the purpose of hunting.  The changes take effect immediately.

PENNDOT HAS TRAFFIC TOOL FOR WORLD SERIES

PennDOT has launched a Little League Traffic Tool for fans heading to South Williamsport that is a part of the 511PA website.  According to a press release from the department, traffic increases along I-180, Route 220 northbound, and Route 15 in and around Lycoming County during the Little League World Series and the website 511PA.com forward slash LLWS helps show traffic congestion along the major routes to the event.  Expect delays in our region from today through Sunday August 28th when the series concludes.

POLICE SEARCH FOR WEAPON, FIND DRUGS

Williamsport police executed a search warrant to search for an AR-15 that was used in a crime two weeks ago at a residence on Catherine Street, and discovered a large bag of marijuana and scales during the search.  According to North Central PA dot com, 50 year old Davere Andre McClain was charged with felony possession with intent to deliver after police obtained a second search warrant for the drugs.  An additional affidavit was also filed on McClain August 11th , after he gave narcotics to a person to sell and police witnessed the exchange.  McClain is in Lycoming County Prison on 50 thousand dollars bail.

CAPITOL RIOT SUSPECT FROM HARRISBURG DENIED VENUE CHANGE

A Harrisburg woman who allegedly stole House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s laptop during the January 6th riot, has had her request to move her trial from Washington DC to Harrisburg, denied by a federal judge..  According to WPMT in Harrisburg Riley William’s attorney filed the motion so she could be in front of a more impartial jury.  US District Judge, Amy Berman Jackson said the jury process is the way to determine whether a jury pool is impartial.  Williams is required to wear an ankle monitor and is under house arrest until her trial which will be now be scheduled for next summer after her potential plea deal broke down in court this week. 

BUCKNELL SPEAKER SERIES TO START IN SEPTEMBER

Bucknell University will bring back the Bucknell Forum Speaker Series beginning Tuesday, September 13th for a virtual exchange with former National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice.  According to a press release from the University, president John Bravman will host the event via Zoom  at 7pm at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts, and Ms. Rice will discuss the theme “The State of American Democracy”.  The Bucknell Forum will feature three more in-person speakers through next spring, including Author and CNN anchor Jake Tapper in November, former Ohio governor, John Kasich along with Obama Adviser, David Axelrod in February, and finally author and 1986 Bucknell graduate Barbara F. Walter in April.  Students and employees get two free tickets for each event.

POLL WORKERS SOUGHT IN PENNSYLVANIA

In recognition of Help American Vote Day this week, the Wolf administration has released a statement inviting residents to serve as poll workers during the upcoming November 8th, 2022 election. According to a press release on PA dot gov, Acting Secretary of the Commonwealth, Leigh M. Majors – Hollidaysburg the mid Atlantic champion plays Southwest Champion, Texas West-Midway from Waco Texas in game 8 tomorrow at 7pm.

NBA
Williamsport native and NBA Forward Alize Johnson has agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs, according to his agent George Langberg. Johnson has played for the Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards. The 26-year-old was the 50th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
