JUDGE VACATES PRIOR RULING OVER LYCO BUDGET AND FINANCE

The Lycoming County commissioners get to keep general ledger, payroll and accounting under their control after a Potter County senior judge vacated a previous order that was to move those functions back under the authority of Controller Krista B. Rogers. According to the Sun Gazette, a dispute began in April of 2021 when the Lycoming County Commissioners voted to transfer Budget and Finance employees to their department citing problems with financial oversight and tax dollar waste.  Rogers countered last year’s move with more legal action.

MAN WHO DESTROYED HOUSE WITH HOMEMADE M80S SENTENCED

A Trout Run man who destroyed his home and lost his hand due to malfunctioning, homemade M80s has been sentenced in Lycoming County Court.  According to Penn Live, 47 year old Seth Magargle was given 7 years probation and is required to repay the insurance company after he pled guilty to reckless endangerment and risking a catastrophe after state police found materials from the explosives in the debris of Magargle’s burned out home.  Lycoming County President Judge Nancy Butts ordered electronic monitoring for a portion of the sentence.

PA GOP SUBPOENAED AFTER FBI RAID

One day after a Pennsylvania GOP legislator had his cell phone seized by FBI officials, several other PA lawmakers have been subpoenaed by the FBI to testify as part of the investigation into the fake elector scheme attempting to keep former President Donald Trump in office after the Election of 2020. According to Penn Live, Pennsylvania House and Senate Republican leaders did not confirm that anyone received subpoenas, but Representative Scott Perry of Pennsylvania and John Eastman, a Trump ally and alleged architect of the elector plot both had their phones seized and searched .  No members of the PA legislature are indicated to be targets of the criminal probe, only actors who could have information relevant to the investigation.

LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES GUESTS ARRIVE THIS WEEKEND

This weekend we will see the start of the world arriving on our doorstep for the 75th anniversary of the Little League World Series in South Williamsport.  The Lycoming County Visitor’s bureau says 20 teams and their families will be involved in the Little League Grand Slam Parade that steps off at 5:30 p.m.at the intersection of Susquehanna and West Fourth Streets Monday night.  West Fourth Street between Hepburn Street and Market Street will close Monday at 2:00pm.  Vine Street will close at 4pm for staging. This year’s parade Grand Marshal is former New York Yankees and Hall of Fame Pitcher, Mariano Rivera.

NY WOMAN ARRESTED FOR TRESPASSING, RESISTING ARREST

A woman who is an admitted heroin addict, struggled with an Old Lycoming Township police officer as he attempted to take her into custody on Wednesday.  According to the Sun gazette, while 28 year old Amanda Bidetti of Brooklyn, New York was being cuffed for trespassing near  the 2200 block of Lycoming Creek Road, she overtook the officer, putting him a chokehold until he regained control of Bidetti with help from other officers on the scene.  Police found drug paraphernalia in the woman’s purse and charged her with simple assault resisting arrest and other charges.  She is in Lycoming County prison with no bail.

LOCAL TEACHER BACK IN JAIL AFTER PAROLE VIOLATION

A former Central PA teacher on probation for a single felony count of sexual assault for which he was convicted in March of 2020, has violaged his probation and will be incarcerated for the remainder of his sentence.  According to North Central PA dot com, 30 year old Cole Black, who was a former Keystone Central teacher,  admitted prior to a polygraph test that he had committed behaviors that violate his court ordered agreement, such as viewing pornography, drinking alcohol and being in the presence of minors.   Black also taught at Bucktail and assisted soccer teams in Montoursville.  He will remain in the Clinton County Prison for the remainder of his sentence, likely the end of 2022.

AUDIT FOR GREGG TWP VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS

The Gregg Township Fireman’s Relief Association has been called out for problems with their audit by the state auditor general who says there is 30 thousand dollars in funds missing.  According to the Record online, the district attorney of Centre County has been asked to investigate the association.  A June audit that covered January 2017 through December 2021 had eight findings detailing noncompliance with prior audit recommendations, undocumented spending and unknown withdrawals, inadequate record-keeping.  There is no accusation of law-breaking, they are concerned with poor procedures and documentation.

MONTOUR-DELONG FAIR GOES THROUGH SATURDAY

The Montour Delong Fair continues through tomorrow night with the traditional fair food, rides, bulls and tractor pulls in Danville.  Farm Tractor pulls are tonight and there is always free musical entertainment on the main stage that starts at 6pm, and the Montour Delong Kitchen features a daily meal starting at 4pm; Fish and Mac & Cheese on the menu today and Chicken and Biscuits tomorrow.  The fair is free to attend, but parking is $5 a night.  Details at montourdelongfair.com.

Hollidaysburg defeated Northwest Washington, DC LL 13-0 in 3 1/2 innings yesterday in Bristol, CT
The Major All-star team is one win away from a trip to the Little League World Series.  They play Delaware today in the Mid-Atlantic Region final at 3pm, it will air on ESPN.

Junior – Keystone, with their 4th straight Junior League Eastern Regional championship, heads to the Junior Little League World Series in Taylor, Michigan this Sunday.
