4 DUI ARRESTS MADE DURING DETAIL
Arrests made during a DUI detail in Northumberland County over the weekend. State police say that from 10pm on Saturday night into 3am on Sunday, they set up a DUI checkpoint in the county stopping 115 vehicles. Police say they arrested three drivers for driving under the influence of drugs with possession and another driver for driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, they say one other person was arrested for drug possession, with 12 traffic citations issued and another 4 warnings given.
DUSHORE MAN DIES FOLLOWING LYCOMING COUNTY CRASH
A fatal crash was reported over the weekend in Northern Lycoming County. State police in Montoursville report that 40 year old Michael Conway of Jersey Shore was driving on Little Pine Creek Road in Cummings Township around 2:45 on Sunday at a reported high rate of speed when he went across the center line on a curve and struck a vehicle head on driven by 51 year old Douglas Confer of Jersey Shore. Confer was not injured, but Conway was flown to Geisinger Medical Center where he died from complications related to emergency surgery that evening.
MAN ARRESTED FOR GIVING FALSE ID
A 20 year old Northumberland man was placed in Union county prison on early on Saturday morning after being pulled over and giving police false identification. State police in Milton say they pulled over Denarli Springs for speeding on Crossroads Drive in Kelly Township around 3:25am Saturday. Police say he provided them with a false name and upon further investigation they found Springs true identity and that he had several warrants out for his arrest, and that he was driving under suspension. He was charged with providing false ID and jailedon the arrest warrants.
NAME CHANGE COMING?
BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field could be going through a name change soon. It was announced that BB&T Banks will soon be merging with Sun Trust Banks. BB&T for the past few years has had a sponsorship agreement with the city for the ballpark at Bowman Field where the Crosscutters play for $35,000 annually. City officials say they do not know when a name change would take place, but the bank would be responsible for the change in signage for the ballpark.
CRASH SHUTS DOWN ROADWAY
A crash on Route 973 at Quiggleville in Lycoming County yesterday afternoon shut down a section of that roadway for several hours. The crash happened as a vehicle struck a utility pole bringing down wires on the roadway during the afternoon. It’s not known if anyone was injured in the crash, but crews had to respond to the scene and shut down the roadway between Lycoming Creek Road and St. Michaels Road. Detours were set up and the road was finally reopened around 9 last night.
$500,000 DAMAGE IN AREA FIRE
Damage is estimated at $500,000 dollars stemming from that fire which destroyed a Loyalsock Township home early on Sunday morning. Fire fire broke out around 3:30am at the Poco Hills Estates home of Jean Soars quickly spreading through the structure. Firefighters had to retreat as part of it started to collapse. No one was injured, though one firefighter was treated for exhaustion at the scene. A state police fire marshal was on the scene looking into the cause, and believed the fire started in a storage area underneath a sun porch there, but will be back this week to see if he can pinpoint and exact cause. Firefighters were called back twice on Sunday for flareups.
LITTER PICK UP THIS WEEK
PennDOT reports that they will have maintenance crews out on another area roadway picking up litter this week. employees will be picking up litter on Route 15 in Lycoming County between the Foy Avenue exit ant the Tioga County line. Once again, no traffic impacts are expected, but motorists are reminded to be alert and watch for workers near the roadway. In addition, litter pickup continues on Route 220 this week between Williamsport and Jersey Shore.
WOMAN CHARGED AFTER DRUGS FOUND
State police in Milton say they have charged a Buffalo New York woman with possession after drugs were found on her while she was at Evangelical Hospital in Lewisburg while being treated for an overdose. Police were called to the hospital on Saturday as two bags of suspected heroin were found with 21 year old Shauna Lauby who concealed them in a body cavity. When a nurse tried taking the, Lauby grabbed one and ingested it. Later more baggies were found with unspecified pills.
20 PEOPLE HOMELESS IN MT. CARMEL APT. HOUSE FIRE
Fire damage was reported as extensive following that weekend fire at an apartment house in Mt. Carmel in Northumberland County. The fire broke out just before 3pm on Sunday in the house at 50 North Maple Street bringing in several fire companies. One person had to be rescued from the 2nd floor but no on was injured. It’s believed that 20 people are left homeless due to that fire, and fire investigators say damage is so extensive, they may not be able to determine a cause. A damasge estimate has not yet been released.
FIRE DAMAGE KEPT TO A MINIMUM
Damage was estimated at $3,000 dollars from a small fire which broke out in a barn in Hepburn Township on Sunday night. The fire broke out around 10pm in the barn owned by Rand Lepley at 2767 Northway Road as some rags in side a wood shop in the barn apparently spontaneously combusted. Lepley had just returned to the barn and discovered the fire and was able to keep it under control with a hose until firefighters arrived. No one was hurt.
